I expect the Islanders to target players that have salaries much lower than actual cap hits, not J-Bo

Komisarek probably makes more sense than J-Bo does, and that says a lot.

I dont really care if hes soft, we have Carkner Martin and Hamonic, and as long as he can play defense with his stick than he really does not need to be so physical.

The Islanders could certainly yield a better return than JayBo for a player like Grabner; the thought of adding a prospect like Nelson perplexes me.

If the rumors are true about the Islanders wanting Bouwmeester, then Garth Snow has honestly outdone himself. Didn't NYI just acquire Visnosky? It literally makes no sense for them to target JayBo if you ask me.

If NYI is willing to unload Grabner for a PMD, then I know somebody who has an even better cap hit . Call up Ray Shero, we'll give you Paul Martin, and we'll even add to our side
You do realize that Eklund, not McKenzie/Staple/Botta/Dreger, is reporting this don't you?
It's not as if someone credible is saying this .

Just the opposite,NY Newsday is reporting that Snow is done putting together his 2012-2013 team.
That pisses off our diehards, having Vis/Boyes/Carkner/ Boulton as our offseason moves when Yandle,Hljarmasson and Ryan are being shopped.

He plays a positional game and despite his big frame, prefers to block, check rather than hit (think Lidstrom, Vlasic, Keith)

I know it's hockey voldemort giving the rumor, but it's worth mentioning.

Let's not get caught up in "Isles won't pay" nonsense... if the Islanders are trying to land JayBo, let's assume they're willing to pay his contract. On the other hand, JayBo does have value, however his cap number does lower it. He's not a cap dump by any means, but Flames fans shouldn't pretend like his salary isn't hurting his trade value.

Bouwmeester

for

Grabner
Brock Nelson
2013 3rd

The Islanders are done with D

Streit Vish

Amac Hamonic

Carkner DeHaan/ Donovan

Done........We never overpay! will not happen now....

Really, I haven't noticed that from anybody at this point.
Like it matters though at this point. We've got a comparable player in Glencross who is a threat in every situation, was on pace for 30 goals and much grittier. I guess we'll just keep our soft, overpaid top 2 defenseman.

The way you've been going about trashing Bouwmeester, it sounds like he poisoned your dog and shat on your laundry.

Grabner can skate faster backwards than Glencross forward, so that comparison is terrible!!! Glencross is no threat in any situation not even close to Grabners talents! Man, the Flames are in bad shape talent wise when pull a Glencross as a comparison.

If the Islanders were smart, they'd stay far far away from this proposal. Jay "No Show" Bouwmeester is soft as butter and does little to warrant the bloated contract he's been given. Peca hit the nail on the head... a fast skating turnover machine. Flames fans have been raving about his positional play, but I certainly haven't seen much of that.

Closest comparison I can think of would be a super-soft version of Brian Campbell.

I agree with the bolded. J-Bo skates beautifully, but lacks heart and grit. I always thought it was because he hated playing in Florida, and once he moved to a Canadian team he would really blossom. Unfortunately, he's never lived up to the hype.

QFT

It's fun to make trade proposals with the Isles because they've got cap space and prospects in abundance, but every reliable source -- and the empirical evidence -- suggests that they're done spending for the offseason.

Adding Bouwmeester's huge contract is absurdly unrealistic.

So was Jay Pandolfo. For as many scoring chances Grabs had last year, he should have netted 50.

This rumor is actually very easy to dismiss. The Isles aren't paying anyone more than JT's 5.5 million. Simple as that. /thread

Just to put things in perspective here.

Last three seasons;

Jay Bouwmeester:
246 Games Played
214 Hits (0.87 Hits per game)
378 Blocked Shots (1.54 Blocked Shots Per Game)
173 Giveaways (0.70 Giveaways per game)

Ryan Suter:
232 Games Played
165 Hits (0.71 Hits per game)
312 Blocked Shots (1.34 Blocked Shots Per Game)
120 Giveaways (0.52 Giveaways per game)

Brian Campbell:
215 Games Played
111 Hits (0.52 Hits per game)
298 Blocked Shots (1.39 Blocked shots per game)
126 Giveaways ( 0.59 Giveaways per game)

-----------

Also, Mike Peca's comments regarding Bouwmeester should hold very little weight. The last time Peca played against Jay Bouwmeester on a consistent basis in the NHL was in 2003-2004. Jay Bouwmeester was a 19 year old kid who was playing in his 2nd professional season. After that year Peca only played 35 games in the Eastern Conference for Toronto in 2006-2007..
