and i thought theyd go after suter
I don't have a link but I read that they offered Suter a bigger contract then Minnessota in terms of money, not sure about length

Well so much for the Owners complaining about shortening up the contracts.. Aren't the GM's being paid by these same owners?? Anyways.. Flyers better lock up Giroux soon because someone will give him a 14 year 100 million offer sheet next year!

You know they probably have an internal budget, so there's a possibility they don't match. It's a lot of picks after all

Edit: If they match, is that offer sheet coming up for P.K? 2x

They don't. And 4 late 1st rounders (if his cap hit is even high enough to get them that kind of a compensation) is nothing compared to what Weber is worth.

They were looking at possible trades before the offer sheet according to Dreger, so I still think there's a fair chance they won't match it.

They were looking at trade options before because they weren't sure that Weber would re-sign and they can't afford to lose him for nothing like they did with Suter. This offer sheet will be matched, because Weber is worth a lot more than 4 low 1st rounders. And even if Weber wants out they'll get a much better return if they match the offer and trade him next offseason.

Yeah, the way I see it Nashville has to take this deal unless the Flyers have managed to put in an immediate 30+ million signing bonus and that Nashville can't afford to pay out that kind of money right now.

EDIT: Apparently they can't do that. Best they can do is have two huge signing bonuses to start each year, apparently thats the source of Dreger's 26 million a year. something like a 12 million dollar bonus followed by 2 million dollar salary followed by 12 million bonus followed by 2 million dollar salary would be how it works.

He can't trade Weber for a year if he keeps him.

That said, its always fun to see how crazy aggressive Philadelphia is each off-season. Holmgrom is in permanent "screw the cap, I want that player" mode.

Nash has to match, meaning is a Pred for a long time if they do, there's no "Weber for one year" anymore.

Of course, but people are still speculating about a sign and trade for Nashville. That can't happen for a year regardless of whether Nashville would want to. Its simply against the rules.

This is also why Nashville is on the hook for 26 million no matter what if they accept. They can't trade him for a year but most of his 2nd year salary would come on July first 2013 as a fresh signing bonus.

Nashville may have just signed Weber to a 14 year deal using Philadelphia ink.

Any chance we can get Holmgren to negotiate Subban's contract for us as well?

2014-2015 Giroux, B. Schenn and Couturier will be RFA. Good luck keeping them all if they hit the market Philly. Nashville will seek revenge for this like past GMs have.

This is such a dick move. No wonder the CBA has to be renegotiated.

I'm not convinced Nashville signs him. That's a lot of dough to dish out for a team apparently tight on budget.
They seemed to be open to spend more last year, and said they were ready to be more competitive. I guess we'll see.

Too bad if they don't though, they finally were getting better. They will also have to find a way to get to the ceiling.
Would be interesting to see how Rinne does too without the two pillars in front.

Well, Holmgren did put Nashville in a tough situation if the rumors of huge signing bonuses are true. With these bonuses it basically amounts to 26M for the first year. For a team on a budget, it might not be possible for them to match. And if they can and do match, and Weber wants out the following year, they will be 1) forced to trade him after having paid one quarter of the contract and gotten 1/14th of its duration 2) keep a player that is unhappy to be there and has no real motivation to want to keep the same level of play.

TBH, NSH is in a tough spot here.

With moves like this, the owners have already lost the battle for public opinion in these new CBA negotiations unless the players do something really stupid.

In making these ridiculous offers I think GMs and owners are banking on player salary rollbacks or else they wouldn't be making them.

How does that make his team better? It just guarantees that they won't get Weber. No way in hell does Nashville not match. Dumb move if you ask me.

That's why they never win the cup. I'll take a GM with brains over one with balls any day of the week and twice on Sundays. Every year everybody salivates about Holgren's moves and they always come up short. The goal is not to look like a reality show, it's to win the cup!
