His specialty is being one of the best dmen to ever play the game, and did so by being a very intelligent player. He also coached the devils d and special teams to the finals last year and has 6 cup rings. The guy is a legend.

The sharks are a dramatically improved team even if they don't make a single othe move. Pair this with a Doan, semin, or even reasonably priced Nash and we might yet have some hope this season

Larry Robinson works with the penalty kill, and was just with NJ...didn't they break the record for the best PK of all time during the regular season? Let's do this.

Robinson didn't coach the PK. Barr did. Robinson works with the blue liners but he has input on pretty much everything strategy wise. He is the guy that fine tunes systems. He will help the PK but he won't run it.

This is exactly what I needed to hear Hockeyball, thanks. This summer has been depressing watching the Kings hold the cup and seeing Minny get good with our old players. Its like watching your enemy walk away with your ex. Ughh....

The best part is if someone hits McLellan on the head with the stick again, we'll actually have a competent coach to fall back on.

Well, Dave Barr is probably not an incompetent idiot so Robinson only had to fine tune the system. With Dumb and Dumber running the special teams in SJ, Robinson might have to do a complete overhaul...

Who would have thought he'd be an option. Not going to get much better when it comes to teaching Burns how to play a big man's game from the blueline.

Regardless. It may be Robinson'll be given full responsibility for PK here in SJ.

And I'd expect all D to work to Robinson @ camp, regardless.

Might be interesting if he sticks around for this week with development camp starting tomorrow.

I like that hes a big presence (literally) behind the bench. Dog a shift and come back to someone like Big Bird is motivation enough to bust your ass every shift. Plus hes a good coach and will help the defense be more aggressive. Way too many stick and poke checks last year.

Wow, talk about a serious credibility boost. Having a guy like Larry Robinson does more than just help the team's coaching problems, it gives the organization some respect.

With Burns' build, he should play more like Blake and less like Boyle.

The assistants weren't all bad. Their even strength setup wasn't bad but it was limited partially due to personnel. Their power play is still very good but both these things can be better and I expect Robinson will help there as well. A lot of the things that those two particular areas could use more help on is d-man involvement.

The PK, when I speak of him running or not running it, is mostly practice stuff. It's probable that he will work with Woodcroft and McLellan to engineer the strategy to use but he may not actually conduct the actual practice of it. He'll probably just supervise it and then offer some particular tweaks to it. I don't think he's going to be here to take on an entire load of a certain assistant's duties. More or less oversee them and correct certain strategy issues.

Not sure if his mind has changed about being a head coach, but it was interesting to see Robinson win the cup after replacing Ftorek right before the playoffs started back in 99-00. Robinson was head coach the following year and took the team to the finals, then in 01-02 was axed (which I'm assuming was probably mutual), then returned again as an assistant in 02-03. After Pat Burns could not resume his duties as head coach because of his illness, in 2005 Robinson stepped up to the main position, but mid-season stepped down again to be an assistant.

We can't know that at this point in time.
