Just curious... does anyone know anything about Javier Avendano? His numbers at Lansing and Vancouver are exceptional minus the walks.

I'm guessing he is a mediocre prospect but i'm just curious if anyone has found a scouting report on him.

Picked him up in the rule 5 draft last year. He's been good. He'll get called up to Lansing to start when Wojo goes to AA and Rollins/Nicolino goes to A+

I wouldn't mind if we traded for Vargas to fill in the rotation... Say what you want about his junky stuff and he doesn't throw hard but I think he could do well in Toronto and it probably wouldn't cost much to get him...

He was signed for one year to be a place holder until Hech is ready and either Hech or Escobar will play 2nd next year. Unless Yunel is traded before then

Wow!!!! that is an amazing team friendly deal considering the production. short term and below market value, players really seem to want to stay here. I guess this firmly signals we are buyers and not sellers.

Do you remember the early 90s when all these players wanted to join the Jays? I believe the quote "If you build it, they will come" is fitting for this situation. And yes, I know it was "he" rather than "they".

Great signing but I can understand the discount as there is a little risk involved on the jays part. Great deal for both sides IMO

This is a great deal for both EE and the Jays. Alex does it again. Long enough to get good production in his prime years, but short enough and reasonable enough dollars to make him tradeable if his production drops. Love this for both sides!

Anyone have a sense for how much Rasmus will command this offseason?

Great news on that signing. It's just about a perfect deal for the Blue Jays. They lock up a productive player in his prime years to a below market value deal.

Rasmus is under club control I believe for three more years. He's eligible for arbitration, but not for free agency for a few more years.

Yeah, I more meant what you can expect from someone with his production who is under control. 2015 is his FA year.

I'd like to think he'll sign for a deal similar to McCutchen's.

I'm sure AA will try and get him locked down to a deal that buys out at least his first year of free agency, but again, there is no hurry. The club has control of his contract for several more seasons.

I was more than aware of the situation. I'm just saying when the time comes, his extension would hopefully be similar to McCutchen's. It's a great term and team friendly contract.

most people are saying that this will end all deadline speculation about EE but dont you guys still think AA may still be up for trading him? with the new contract his value has significantly increased since he is more than a rental player..i dont see any mention of a no trade clause as of yet..so ill think what i want right now

EE: What a difference a year makes. 13 months ago very few (if any) of us wanted him on our roster or our lineup. Even AA let him go during 10/11 off-season.

Now he's the toast of our town.

We, and AA, got lucky here. Well done, Edwin!
