I agree with you to some extent. I saw things in his game that made him worth hanging on to. But perhaps its one of those things where DW and Benn reached a mutual agreement at their post-mortem meeting that Benn wasn't going to get a regular spot in SJ for some time and that it would be better for him to play somewhere else.

I feel the same way, I saw think of him as an ideal 13th forward with the potential to be much more. Hope he finds success in Pittsburgh. Wish him all the best.

I'm just glad that Kirby will soon have no reason to keep spamming that image

The Pens put emphasis on the same thing the Sharks did last year. Benn will have to do a self makeover hockeywise if he wants to see NHL ice.

Depending on if we can dump Handzus and who we get as a scoring winger I think Winnik would be great for the bottom 6. It is odd Winnik hasn't signed anywhere yet, or even been rumored to have anyone interested. He must be asking the moon.

Yah, thats where I like him too. A PKing 3rd liner that is capable of 2nd line minutes from time to time. Plus I think we could use his speed, size and ability to hang on to the puck.

He might also be occupied with the NHLPA negotiations and don't want the distraction.

Burish replaces Winchester largely, but in the case of Winnik, he was a valuable hard-nosed player that added something to the team. Our bottom 6 is by no means set and if we sign him for a couple years at a bargain price, that would make some sense. Winchester would have to come in at the minimum but I'm not sure there really is a role for him except as a depth 4th liner.

I haven't been banging the drum on Kyle Wellwood because he's not a perfect solution, but he would have a better fit as someone with some speed and more importantly on this team, the ability to stick handle. He's also someone who can play up into the top 6 when needed for short periods. He's a better option than either Winchester or Winnik if I needed to make a decision on filling out the bottom 6 and those were the three options available.

What's pretty obvious at this point is all three of them are going to have to take a lower price than they'd hoped and that fits DW's approach to the FA market.
