LOL!! Forgot about that. God I hope murray bounces back and doesn't get traded... You know he'll do that to Marleau or Thorton. God forbid he hits Couture like that.. he literally might kill him... ;P

UFA Shane #Doan's agent, late last night: "I cannot comment on (#sjsharks). We have spoken. No offer from Montreal". #Habs #NHL

In agent speak this sounds like we made an offer or are negotiating one.

If it keeps him off the LA kings (and to a lesser extent PHX, DAL, ANH), would overpaying Doan be that bad? I would rather give him 4 years at 5.5 mil than see him on the kings for slightly cheaper.

Let LA have him. I do not know if 'preventative' measures like that will be good for us in the long run. I am seriously ready for the re-build/mini-rebuild.

Doan will be 40 if we give him a 4 year deal. I am fine with the 4 years but not at 5.5 million. 4M is fine but I would prefer 3.5M for a 4 year deal.

Not surprised. I am actually hoping he stays in Phoenix. He is going to be too expensive of an acquisition for us and still does not get the speed we need.

I am not a fan of the re-build, I believe we should go on all cylinders for at least one more year. If I did want to re-build though, I probably wouldn't offer any more than 4mil like you said.

I think he is probably worth 6, 5.5, 4.5, 2 for the next 4 years (in today's crazy free agent market) so ideally we would be able to sign him for 4.5-4.75 per year for the next 4 years. I don't expect that to happen though.

edit: In a perfect world he signs a 2 year contract, but that isn't happening.

The problem with that is with a lot of our contracts expiring in 2 years, if we wait a year we will get fairly minimal value. Also guys like Clowe and Murray will leave for nothing.

I am honestly surprised that there has been not much interest in a package around Clowe that could net us a speedy winger. Or maybe there has been and we just have not heard about it because of how secretive and quiet our management is.

I am definitely glad there have been no panic moves by DW (yet) with regard to Nash. From what I have seen and heard at this time both Pavs and Couture are off the table. This is great because losing either of them for Nash does not really improve us significantly.

I actually would love to move Murray right now and would be ok with moving Clowe for a speedy 2nd/3rd liner depending on if we sign Doan or another top 6 forward. I don't consider those moves rebuilding, more tweaking the current roster. I think this team is good enough now that it is worth it to hold on to our players for another shot at a deep playoff run. Obviously they lose some value but that's ok with me.

Anytime the talk of a potential FA or trade comes up I resign to the fact that we are not getting him. i.e Doan, Semin, Parise, Nash, etc.

We will probably end up getting someone totally unexpected. Thats how Doug rolls.

Then he'll say "it was the guy we've been targeting the entire time!"

Referendum petition signature collectors think they have until next Monday to collect signatures (which is the reason for the delay).

But there may be a rejection of the petition submission (as the city says the deadline was 7/9), which may result in more legal wrangling.

I will say that DW and or the Sharks Org. do not let out who they are talking to, they really keep it tight and quiet, any leaks usually come from the other side. DW does talk to GMs and agents allot, i'm never surprised then we here that the Sharks are on someones list or have inquired about a player. Remember, DW is a active tire kicker of players with GMs and Agents - DW likes to shop, just rarely a buyer.

DW gets high marks for deal creativity for me for name players/coaches. He does not like to buy high and always works deals so that he buys on the low side. I would be surprised if DW signs any high end UFAs, he won't do it and overpay. Only way he'll get them is on the cheap (e.g. Heatly and Jumbo).

I would not be surprised to see him get a RFA player from a cap strapped team.

Good RFAs are typically seen as the most valuable and affordable assets

affordable for the teams, that they are RFA's for, not so affordable for teams that try to sign them away.
