San Jose Sharks News
‏@SJSharkNews
The Sharks have offered Shane Doan a contract ‪#sjsharks‬

Not sure if this has been posted or not but I wonder how much and for how many years. My guess is 3 years $15M.

Here is a statement from a columnist I respect

Helene Elliott ‏@helenenothelen

@Gambo620 reports that Eastern team has offered Shane Doan 4-yr deal worth $30-million+. Absolutely insane

That contract is about 8 million and one year too much.

Doan would be a fool not to take that. Who cares what team.

He wants a cup. He's got plenty of money.

Agreed. But $30m buys a lot of Skittles. That is a ton of coin!

We'll see. An extra $10-15 million can usually sway a person's mind.

Besides, his list of teams included several that did not do as well as the Coyotes last season. What does that say?

I guarantee you his agent is going "Look Shane... I know you want a cup but man... I'll buy you a replica if you take that deal"

Either a team trying to hit the cap floor (Isles, Panthers, Jets, Canes, Sens)

or either Pens or Flyers trying to use that money they set aside for Parise

The two teams that have the most to spend were two of the best teams in the league - Nashville and Phoenix

There's trying to hit the cap floor, and there's severely handicapping your franchise for a half a decade. The offer cannot possibly be true.

Agreed. Glad it's some team in the east and not us.

Only Ott, NYI, and Car should be worried about the floor (in the east). I can't see the islanders doing this and I think Carolina is the best bet. They seem to be very active recently.

Hurricanes, Isles, or Panthers most likely. Can't rule out the Rangers because it sounds exactly like something that Glen Sather would do.

that team must be pretty bad in order for Doan not to take that deal

can't imagine any legit contender topping 4 years, let alone the money

Woah I saw a dream that we signed him for 3 years, 2.8m per year.

Obviously a nightmare, 3 years for a soon to be 36 year old? OH MY GOD

I highly doubt Doan will sign in the East. I really do think it will come down to the Sharks and Kings. Vancouver is obviously an option, but I do think the chance to stay fairly close to his family while playing for a Cup contender will be hard for him to turn down.

I have a fealing that the team is the Jets. He's played there before and the Jets would likely love him to teach Evander Kane the ropes.

He's not going back to Winnipeg. Doan said prior to last season, that if the Coyotes moved to Winnipeg, he would rather retire than play there. He took a lot of undeserved criticism from Canadian fans for it. There is zero chance that he signs there, especially on a long-term deal that would mean he would have to move his wife and kids (who are all from Arizona) from one of the most comfortable places to live in North America to one of the least comfortable.

At 2.8? I'd take that and run!
