6 years for a 35 year old player? that is bordering on philly stupid.
6m probably 4 years is what the non reputable twitter people were saying. I don't think he's been offered that much but I do think term is the thing we need to offer if we want to get him.

Yah, that would be absolutely stupid.

Also, Spector saying Semin is looking at $5m or less. That is simply a better option.

Even with my wariness of Semin, I'd sign him for 2-3 years at $5m.

i wouldn't be happy with the price, but having doan being part of a already tough top 6 would be worth it i believe.

and the sharks would have clowe's hitting replaced next year if clowe ultimately does leave.

If the Sharks sign down and retain Clowe they actually just got slower from last year. It would be season suicide. Clowe better be gone if Doan is brought in. Hell, Clowe better be gone period because he does not belong on the 3rd line (can't play D) and is too slow for our already sluggish Top-6.

Doan at $6m a year is laughably insane. The guy puts up 50 points a year... Intangibles are not worth that kind of coin.

If these twitter hucksters are to be believed do you think DW might give a front loaded contract for cap purposes? I know he's spoken out against them in the past but with the new cba it might make sense to give some of the money as signing bonus.

The only reason it might make sense is if there is a lockout and he never has to pay it

Seriously though, I don't see DW ever signing a deal like that.

Doan is getting in grossly overrated territory here.

Nash at 7.8m is probably closer to a better value than Doan at 6. Which is really sad, considering Nash at 7.8m sucks.

I'd much rather have Semin at 2/10 and use the savings on a random countryman of his to stick in the press box so he has a buddy. Maybe a translator and other "perks" than Doan at that price.

You can't circumvent a 35+ contract btw, see: Pronger, Chris. The hit is guaranteed regardless.

Doan at 6 million is crazy, just as Nash at 7.8 is crazy

I'm not really interested in either one at that price.

I'm not buying it. With how bad the market is right now, there's no way Semin hasn't received multiple offers at that price and term.

Overpayment maybe, but are there any other alternatives that would yield a noticeable improvement to the team? If so, lets go for the alternatives.

Semin would be far the better alternative. Although he may not want to play here. I'd expect if the plan was to play in the KHL he would have already signed a contract by now

Nash at 7.8 makes a ton more sense than Doand at 6 for multiple years

The KHL season starts earlier. IIRC, if Semin isn't signed over there by Aug. 1, it is pretty certain that he is staying in North America. He may also be watching the early barrages in the CBA negotiations and taking as long as possible to make sure the season occurs as I doubt that any team is offering a significant bonus.

Look at it like this, Parise and Suter will have $10mil each in their pockets to comfort themselves through a work stoppage.

I will second that. Honestly it kind of sucks though that the 2 players we are talking about are not steps in the right direction for our team.

Nash - Will cost way too much (if its Pavs+). Terrible Caphit.
Doan - Expensive @6M per and does not make us any faster. An expensive and slight upgrade to Clowe.

We need some young blood. Someone young and fast. I think its been said before that we do not necessarily need the 'best' player for our first line. Just someone who Thornton clicks with.

What a debilitating deal, if it gets done. Doan doesn't make the team significantly better, and his ridiculous salary will force DW to shed salary.

DO.NOT.WANT.

There is no reason to trust Mr two ys two rs. Rumor has it the pens are offering 2years 4.5m, I don't think money is that important I think its about the right situation and term for Doan. I think the closest contending team to Phoenix that offers him 4years at a decent price gets him.

Didn't we wonder the same thing after Parise and Suter signed?

I don't mind Doan taking a long time for this decision. Training Camp (Assuming this CBA get's resolved) doesn't start until early September anyway.

They get paid even during a work stoppage? How is that fair?

Their salary is $2 million with $10 million in signing bonuses. The bonus gets paid regardless if they ever touch the ice.

I think they already got their 10 million dollar checks for this season. Did they not?

So when are we supposed to hear from Doan today? I can't stand how players always give these deadlines and leave the hockey world hanging just to find out what they're going to do. Make a decision already and stop making everyone wait. Same with Howson and the whole Nash thing.

Pollak updated his blog saying Doan's agent told him there was no deadline.
