Most positive news we've had all day. We're in with a good chance.

It's truly amazing how wrong he is about most stuff. I think Dreger punked him on twitter sometime last week. I remember it made me smile.

I think there's at least a 75% chance he picks San Jose. The only two reasons you need are proximity and the Sharks being a contender.

Another Larry Robinson player we could look at would be Sykora, had a great season last year.

Hey that way we'd have one fast guy on each line.

In all seriousness Sykora would be an affordable option to bring scoring to the third line. Even mentioned him earlier. He is old though, he and Doan would make us a much older team overall. But we would be truly stacked with scoring talent!

I saw that! One of Eks bloggers attacked Dreger for it... it was dumb...

Burish brings that too at a much better price tag... Just not sure how much "leadership is going to be worth to a team that needs a serious speed infusion. For the life of me I can't remember thinking Doan looked that fast on the ice... I dunno though...

Was this all it was? https://twitter.com/DarrenDreger/sta...36618406760449

Kinda more subtle than I remember it.

No that aint it. He said something like "sorry eklund but I just got off the phone with So and so and you're wrong!" Not a quote but loose interpretation...

I don't know how to get the link for that specific tweet...

"@Eklund. Sorry pal. Just talked to Dale Tallon and he says nothing has changed. Still talking with Van. Nothing imminent. High price."

I think Ek had just said that Florida was out of the Lou sweepstakes.

Haha yeah I didn't think I had the right one. That was funny.

Doan. Yes. Maybe tomorrow something will happen. (I've said this since July 1.)

6 mill?? He wants a freaking raise from his last contract? GTFO. Dude can barely score 20 goals nowadays. Pavs can give 30 goals for 4 mill. Couture can give us 30 goals for less than 3 mill. Hell, Seto can crank out 20 goals a year no matter how inconsistent he is for 3 mill. Is Doan's intangibles worth 3 mill or something because his goal scoring and ability ain't worth 6 mill. Although I'd rather overpay and give Doan 4.5-5 mill than give up Pavs+ in a trade for Nash. At least we'd have 7 top six caliber forwards instead of swapping Pavs for Nash and ending up where we started with only 6 top six caliber forwards.

That could be a solid line up for sure!

I'm not too worried about the "Sharks getting older" argument. The way I see it, is we have two years to win it all anyway before a complete overall when all the big guys' contracts are up.

So its worth rolling the dice on some older players as long as the terms are short.

I cant imagine Doan is actually asking for 6mil. Maybe that's his game to price himself out of Phoenix. I can't imagine him going anywhere besides Phoenix or San Jose at this point. (with regards to the aforementioned teams)

DW won't offer him anything longer than a 2 year contract, and frankly if he comes to the Sharks he won't want to be on the team after that offseason anyway. (we'll be rebuilding)

I would much rather have Shane Doan for nothing than gut part of our core for Rick Nash. I wouldn't be opposed to Alex Semin, I can't really see him on this team. I can see Wilson overpaying for Doan, but I can't see him overpaying for Semin. Besides, I doubt Semin would want to sign here any ways. He apparently doesn't speak very good English, and there isn't exactly a strong Russian presence in the dressing room.
