Boyle as our third line center? Seriously guys?

I can't be the only one horrified at the thought of that

They had 12 forwards

Richards
Stepan
Boyle
Gaborik
Callahan
Dubinsky
Anisimov
Hagelin
Kreider
Pyatt
Rupp
Asham

I'm not counting Haley

Halpern give them 13 forwards. They can move 2 forwards to Columbus and have 12. Gaborik will miss the first 2-3 months of the season IF it starts on time and there's no lockout.

Richards
Stepan
Boyle
Halpern

Halpern played for Torts and Sullivan in TB. Righthanded center.

huh? ok i guess... I'll assume Sather will be making some sort of move soon then. Otherwise 13th forward type of move. can win draws and PK so not horrible on the 4th line.

Anisimov isnt much of a playmaker. He stinks on faceoffs. He's got a lethal shot and good in the corners, so he's better suited on the flanks

That's fine.

Point still stands.

We only had 12 forwards. Now with Halpern, we have 13.

Tortorella can mix and match however he sees fit, but now he has a full squad of forwards to do it with.

Really not seeing a prelude to anything.

For 19 games...

Also, RB... the Rangers didn't acquire Halpern to ensure they had enough NHL forwards to ice a roster. They acquired him for depth in case of injury. Your lineup is still 11 forwards for the first couple of months of the season if you remove 2 players for 1 (I know you think there will be a lockout, I don't).

Alot of overreacting in this thread. Fills faceoff need, veteran presence, 1 year deal.... not a make or break signing in any way.

Your Boyle hate is irrational and irritating, you sound like a child. He was our best player in the first round until he took a headshot and you want him dealt over anisimov who is not physical, is not consistent, and never scored 20 goals while getting 3rd line minutes! Sometimes this fanbase is disgusting, without Brian Boyle we don't get out of the first round and now you talk about him as if he is wade redden.

Nice depth move. He is the stopgap until Lindberg is ready the following season. Lindberg will play a fourth line role. Miller has higher upside.

The more depth the better. No more Bickell or Emminger on wing, and no forcing one of Hrivik/Yogan/Thomas/Miller/Borque to make the team if they're not ready.

Haley isn't even in the conversation. AHL goon who might see some time here and there or get claimed off waivers.

If a rookie makes the team (most likely Hrivik) then all the better and Halpern and Asham are at a point where they don't have to be everyday players.

If there's a lockout Rupp might get bought out during a potential Amensty buyout period.

I am starting to think two of Hagelin, Anisimov, and Dubinsky are on the way out. I am guessing our team looks like this:

Nash-Richards-Gaborik
Kreider-Stepan-Callahan
Hagelin-Boyle (unfortunately)-Pyatt
Rupp-Halpern-Asham

McDonagh-Girardi
Staal-Stralman
Del Zotto-Erixon

Not loving the third line.

He more or less played like one at times. He would be the first man in on the forecheck sometimes. He usually covered the points in the defensive zone.

Personally, I think he is more useful as a wing on the 4th line. He wouldn't be handling the puck as much, can screen, use his body to hit more etc.

I am going to seriously shed tears if Boyle is our 3rd line center. That's absolutely terrible.

Boyle was a 3rd line center last season and the team was first in the east. AA and Dubinsky played LW for 99% of the time in 11-12.

I will agree that his offense skill set is best suited for the wing, but he handles the defensive responsibilities of center very well, which shouldn't be undervalued.

Can someone please answer. Is Pyatt and upgrade over Feds? Is Pyatt a serviceable third line player?

pretty meh signing imo...could do worse as a 13th forward...guess we'll see how things shape out in camp. Hoping at least 1 kid can crack our lineup at forward.

Nah, 4th line role I can live with him. But I am not going to be thrilled with him as a third line center. He had a handful of good games during the year but mostly was ineffective or played like garbage for the rest. I would much rather have Anisimov as a third line center. He has mobility, and great defensively.

He has got heart, but his skating is putrid(he can't turn). His physical limitations are a real hinderance imo.

But if you want to call me a hater, thats cool.

The only thing he does exceptionally well, is that he is an excellent PKer.

I wonder if you can figure out the fault in that logic.

This team was hurting big time last season during the playoffs when players started to get injured/suspended. This is a move to address that as well as helping on faceoffs and on the PK.

Although I won't fully rule out this being a precurser to a bigger move.

I'm starting to wonder if most of the posters here even watch the same team? Boyle was our best PK player and faceoff man all year, he usually went against teams top lines with partners in crime such as fedotenko and Prust. He was a beast in the first round playing solid 2 way hockey, getting karlsson off his game, and scoring huge goals. Boyle was EXTREMELY overused by our coach last year, adding Halpern keeps him fresh and takes a ton of pressure off him. This was a great move and allows Boyle to play third line center, hopefully with better quality wingers depending on if we make a trade.
