1. Fire Burke.

2. Draft as high as possible in 2013

3. Trade Kessel before his NMC kicks in

4. Draft as high as possible in 2014

5. Sign a goalie after that, ease our prospects into prime spots all throughout, trading veterans and salary out for picks or size/skill packages along the way.

good effort with your post and the time, effort and thought you put into..

However, anytime you mentioned multiple trades and you start naming players and draft picks but have no clue what the GM's feel it comes off as very rediculous to even read or take seriously.

Having an opinion is great and i can only speak for myself but random trade proposals make me cringe? I mean really you just changed the team instantly it's so unrealistic.

Would i love those players you aquired sure.. but i can't see alot it that happening.. and you grossly overpaid for webber and stasny.

Here's my 5-year plan:
  1. Sign UFA Getzlaf in 2013
  2. Tank for 1st overall in 2014 draft, use it to trade for Tavares
  3. Tank for 1st overall in 2014 draft, use it to trade for B.Schenn
  4. Tank for 1st overall in 2015 draft, use it to trade for Backstrom (MIN)
  5. Tank for 1st overall in 2016 draft, use it to trade for Giroux

Hopefully by 2016, salary cap goes up to 100M+ so we can afford to keep all these guys under contract.

That weber trade is awful. That's a lot to give up for one guy.

Here's my simpler plan.

Sign Getzlaf and Perry at all costs next offseason. We have the cap space to do it. I think we have 12m now and we'll have 20 mil next summer with Lombardi and Connolly gone. If we manage to get these two players then kessel would be great to keep.

Try to trade for Bobby Ryan. (Colborne + Grabovski + Blacker/Holzer/Percy + 2nd 2013)

It's likely Reilly will play in the 2013 season and that one of Blacker/Holzer will be up full time with the team, so we need to get rid of some defencemen so we can utilize these cheap contracts.

I don't know what we can get for Gunnarsson, but I will assume he's not in the long term plans.
2013 October opening lineup.

Perry - Getzlaf - Kessel
Lupul - JVR - Ryan
FA - Kadri - Frattin
Ross - Mcclement - Komorav

Phaneuf - Reilly
Liles - Franson
Gardiner - Holzer/Blacker/Percy

We don't need to do all that... nor is it realistic even the slightest bit.

Trade for a centre... Paul Stastny. Give them Lupul + Colborne. We need Lupul but we need Stastny more and it's easier to find another winger.

Sign Doan to replace Lupul, if we miss out on him then sign Semin or trade for Morrow/Hemsky. It wouldn't be as hard to find a replacement for Lupul.

Trade Mac + Kadri for Luongo.

Doan - Stastny - Kessel
JVR - Grabovski - Kulemin
Lombo - Mcclement - Frattin
Komorav - Steckel - Brown

Phaneuf - Gunnarson
Gardiner - Franson
Liles - Holzer

Luongo
Reimer

Makes no sense for Colorado.

Yeah let's not re-sign a 24 year-old star forward. Let's trade him!

So you're suggesting we go into cap hell for years to come?

Thank you. I know it's a great idea.

If GM's around the league overrate him as much as Leafs fans do, we'll get a great return and hopefully get this ship turned around.

Kessel is incredibly underrated. All he does is get crapped on. He just finished 6th in league scoring with Bozak as his centre and we're overrating him?

Like I said, we can only hope GM's think like this.

Only 82 points? He's crap. Let's get some draft picks! I'm sure they'll put up more points!

Staal, Kreider and 1st not enough for Kessel? That would be an ideal trade IMO..no?

You didn't forget. How can the deal be contingent on Weber resigning long term, but the 2nd only being part of the deal if Weber resigns?

I don't think Minny will be too happy trading Backstrom for a 1st round pick in 2015. He's too valuable to them.

Or, he'll be like 40 years old at that point.

That's a lot of highly improbable trading and at the end of it I'm honestly not sure if we're any better.

Sort of like Burke's tenure thus far!

Ba doom doom tssshh!

Even assuming all these trades could happen (which is ludicrous), I'm still unsure about that line-up.

The 1st line is pretty solid, though I'm not sure how much of an upgrade (if any at all) JVR+Ryan is over Lupul+Kessel and that would be an amazing 1st pairing, but there's not really much going on after that.

No upgrade in goal, the bottom 6 stays the same, excluding Komisarek our bottom 4 d have a combined 1 year of NHL experience, and for our 2nd line we replace Grabovski+MacArthur with Doan+Kreider (another rookie) and insert another rookie of our own.

It would make the offseason exciting, but I don't really see the point of it all.

That's not really a better team then before... Also 3 new players being assigned leadership roles ?

Plus you say we won't get what we paid for kessel back. And then you expect the return to be, staal who is better then Hamilton, Kreider a top prospect who not better then seguin but could end up playing a bigger role or nyr then seguin for Boston. And the first is better thn knight
