DW and TM were not happy with how things ended. McLellan was given a vote of confidence; not so the AC collective.

As to what latitude TM was allowed in picking/choosing who stayed and/or was hired, that's a different animal.

I do not see this hiring (and/or the removal of Shaw and/or Woodcroft from behind the bench) as a lessening of McLellan's authority.

If anything, it's given him more (as a survivor).

I like the sound of this.
me too. Speed of play has definitely been a HUGE issue in SJ.

Ricci getting an expanded role with #sjsharks coaching staff, but not fulltime post. Matt Shaw leaving.

I have no idea who Jim Johnson is, but if it means that one of Woodcroft or Shaw is gone, then I'm all for it.

It's hard to say because then they'd not only have to demote Woodcroft (don't see McLellan doing that), but they'd also have to demote the current video room guy. They had 4 coaches behind the bench before.

Shaw.

I hope to see Woodcroft back in the video room. The Sharks were a great third period team with him back there.

Sounds like the Sharks staff is going the right direction with their coaching choices though. Speed, pressure, aggressive play.

You have to think some big trades are in the works then, because this top-6 simply isn't suited to play the style of game they seem to be wanting for this team (and I agree with).

I would think that line of thinking focuses squarely on Clowe, because Clowe is the odd man out of a faster Top 6. I suppose Pavs too, but many of us can live with Pavs centering a scoring third line. But it would appear that Clowe could (should?) be moved.

Exactly what I was thinking... Robinson has a great set of D to work with but to play the game as JJ is talking about, we need different players.

Regardless, where Woodcroft is, he's fallen lower on the totem pole. There is NO way a Boyle or Burns lessens to Jay Woodcroft over a Larry Robinson when push comes to shove...

Reality is TMac's clout has lessened. He's closer to the brink than he was before. If the Sharks turn it around and exceed expectations next season, THEN he'll have more authority. Right now, he doesn't. Not when 1 and maybe 2 of his chosen ACs is gone/demoted.

Perfect!! Happy to have Shaw and Woodchuck gone or generally away from major coaching roles. This is what i've wanted and thought would happen. Johnson is an UPGRADE again over any of the assistants we had last year.

Robinson has his D to work with, now we need to get Johnson some speedier players.

This is what the website has listed

Head Coach Todd McLellan
Associate Coach Larry Robinson
Assistant Coaches Jim Johnson, Jay Woodcroft

Nothing for a video coach..

Sharks official announcement.

(Nothing about length of deal or other staff moves/changes.)

Yes on the speedier players. Sounds like DW has been working on this for awhile. Perhaps now that he's done with the coaching staff he can get us these players.

Interesting that it appears DW, not Tmac, has been taking the lead and gathering the new coaching staff. I had thought that the head coach had done this in most cases.

Yeah, thing is the forward who can play that style (Marleau) doesn't naturally.

And the forwards who could (Pavelski, Couture) are likely too slowly to be effective playing it. Their mental side could make up for it - anticipation, etc.

Jumbo and Havlat should be decent at it.

Forget Clowe - too slow and not mentally good either.

More proof to me that TMac's clout's gone down. Now he's on the hook to deliver.
