Kevin Bieksa

Genuinely curious what the asking price would be to move Bieksa out of Vancouver

Zero reason for Vancouver to move him, he's a pretty darn good 2nd pairing d-man.
And he has a NTC, and loves Vancouver.

I have no idea but it wont happen due to No Trade and he's part of the tight-knit core group that played together up from the AHL (along with Burrows and Kesler).

Theoretically Bieksa could be considered expendable.

We saw Tanev do a solid job when paired with Hamhuis last season, so its not like Bieksa is 100% irreplaceable. We could also use Garrison as Hamhuis partner.

We would however need a strong overpayment for him though because he pairs up so well with Hamhuis and brings some meanness that our back end lacks (really he is our only mean d-man).

We would need a solid top-6 forward coming our way, but it would leave a hole in our top-4.

If for some reason we can't retain Edler or trade him some time.
I could see some eventual pairs of Hamhuis Tanev, Garrison Bieksa.

This would give us a pretty decent 2 pairs. Ballard and whoever it is will be good for a 3rd pair.

Core player + NTC + no reason to move him = the ever popular overpayment or bust.

Would love to have him in Detroit. But he signed a discount to stay giving him the NTC and I have no idea why Vancouver would actually move him. It would take a massive overpay, one I am not sure the Wings could really offer.

Bieksa stays. Despite his flaws he's still incredibly valuable to Van, more so than other teams.

Plus, I'm not giving up entertaining encounters with Scott Oakes any time soon.

Oh yeah, I didn't even factor his interviews into things. Juice isn't going anywhere.

There are only a few players this team win and loses by and I think they are:

Sedins, Kesler, Burrows, Bieksa
------------------------------------------
Hamhuis, Garrison, Edler, Schneider, Hansen
------------------------------------------
Malholtra, Higgins
------------------------------------------
Tanev, Kassian, Ballard, Booth, Lapierre

That's how highly I think of what Bieksa has done for Vancouver

Nothing less than a high first rounder and a good prospect. Tough as nails, right handed defensemen with great shots aren't everywhere. He's worth a lot.

If you think you can pry Bieksa out of Vancouver, you might as well include Kesler and Burrows in the deal. The three are tight, has signed hometown deals to stay together, you trade one of them, you loose the other two's respect.

THIS.

Like to include that apparently their families are very close too.

Buffalo fans went on about how Paul Gaustad and Ryan Miller were close and great friends, but he was still dealt.

A business is a business and if Gillis feels a deal for Bieksa makes the Nucks better, Bieksa would be gone in an instant if he didn't have a NMC, or a NTC.

on top of all the other reasons already stated about why he won't be dealt (NTC, took a discount and is good value for his contract, core player, RHS, only mean streak on our blueline, etc.), i would add that his importance to the room goes beyond him being best buddies with kesler and burrows, and them having some kind of full house arrangement going with their families (bieksa being uncle joey, obviously). the entire room loves him.

AV is or at least can often be a j-wad. kesler is a grumpy s.o.b. the sedins are quiet leaders. more than anyone else, bieksa is the guy who keeps the room loose, keeps the new and young guys involved, and makes the team feel like a team. he also takes it upon himself to deflect the heat from kesler, luongo, and others in the media, and will probably do the same for schneids next year. he's not just a leader, he's the glue.

another important factor: burrows and edler are UFAs at the end of the year. how are we going to get them on longterm deals with hometown discounts if we just chucked bieksa, especially after the luongo debacle?

i'd trade him for jarome though, i guess.

When Canucks sign/trade for Weber, I'd love to get Bieksa on the 2nd pairing with Staal.

I appriciate you're offering something of value, but the Canucks likely decline. He's been drafted, developped and lives here, his family is close to other families in the organization, and he's bff with Kesler and Burrows, forming our core witht he Sedins.

IMO, for the value we'd get back for Bieksa, we might as well try to trade Edler or the Sedins instead. That's the kind of value to the team and community we're talking about here, despite some band wagon fans wanting him moved after a freak injury.

Canucks are a presidents' trophy winning team and Buffalo missed the playoffs, big difference.

I was gonna come here and say that Bieksa is untouchable, but the Lucic offer is making me think hard.

I'd still say no from the Canucks standpoint - not because the value isn't there but rather because Gillis and co stands to lose a lot reputation-wise if they forced a trade on Bieksa (hometown discount, NTC, BFF status with Burr and Kes, etc etc etc etc).

maybe we get a trial period, see if Lucic can buddy up with Kesler and Burrows, then if all they click, do the deal :-)
