End of the line for Knuble or does he get picked up elsewhere?

I think he will get a contract somewhere. Who knows for how much or where. He has a cup already so doesn't necessarily HAVE to be a contender, but I imagine he would prefer one.

Knuble won't be re-signed by Caps; wants to keep playing

http://www.nhl.com/ice/news.htm?id=633979

Quote:
Mike Knuble told the Washington Post on Wednesday that he will not return to the Washington Capitals next season.

Knuble, who will become an unrestricted free agent on July 1, said Capitals GM George McPhee had informed him that the team would not be re-signing him.
In my mind, Knuble can still play, even at age 39. He says he feels good health-wise. What teams in need of a veteran power forward would be willing to take a chance on him?

Didn't he spend a lot of the year complaining he wasn't getting bigger minutes? I can't imagine any team signing him and giving him a top-six role. Unless maybe he goes to a rebuilding team as a mentor / stop-gap?

If he wants playing time...he's going to have to somehow prove he has it in him to be a consistent top 6 player based on his play this season, not his history.

If the Bruins don't resign Pouliot, then I could see them picking up Knuble again. Chia's low to no risk trades and pickups work very well. Pouliot, although a lot less than spectacular, is the cheapest 16 goals you'll get, 1.1m.

I think he can still play as well.

Even if it's just as a depth veteran/leadership signing I think there are a few teams that would be open to it.

I wouldn't be opposed to the Jets signing him, even if it's just a depth signing. I think the team could use some more leadership.

I imagine he'll see if the Red Wings will take him, since they were his childhood team and he still lives in Michigan. If they're not interested, he'll probably retire. As much as he says he's still in shape and can still play, it was pretty evident this year that he's lost a step or three.

I'd love him on the Leafs. Probably won't fit, though.

Something tells me the Penguins will be in on him.

He could be a good mentor for some younger guys.

But he sucked real bad this year.

Might not be a bad pickup for tha canucks if he can be signed between 0.7-1.2 range. Could be used up and down the lineup.

He lost a couple steps this year, and he was someone that didn't really have wheels left.

I don't think a contender signs him unless he's willing to accept a 4th line role with spot pp and top-6 duty.

Best of luck Knoobs. You were a great soldier and citizen. I only wish we'd gotten you 6 years ago.

The Caps can trade Knuble''s rights to Nashville for Radulov's rights

Any chance that his buddy Yzerman picks him up for cheap for the Lightning? Might be a good addition for depth on the wing.

I wouldn't be shocked if the Pens picked him up on the cheap. Shero has done this every year.

I'd rather throw 2.5mil at Penner on a "reclamation contract" then take a chance on Knuble. But, if he went unsigned I'd certainly give him a try-out contract.

I'll take a shot in the dark and say he stays in the SE division and signs with the Peg.

Has ISLANDERS written all over it.

1) Known established player with little left in the tank (see Rolston)

2) Ties to Doug Weight (past U.S. tourney teams)

3) Looking for icetime

4) Eligible for performance bonuses so the NYI can reach the CAP floor

At this point I don't think Knuble is a top 6 player on any team. This season he was an average performer on a poor Caps 4th line.

I can see the Pens being interested if the price is right.

I guess he wants to play for the Wings.

Quote:
CSN: You have a home in East Grand Rapids. Would the Detroit Red Wings be a possibility?

Knuble: We are going back that way and we are going to live in Michigan, probably the rest of our lives, or at least until the kids go to school and are out of college. Detroit would be a neat story since I was drafted there. I’ll make no secret about that. That would be a nice way to come back around. You don’t have that luxury, but maybe a team has a hole and I can fill fit for a year until a prospect develops.
