It's uncanny how much he plays like Kovalchuk from ~1:10 floating around just like "yeh...defenceman will get it" to getting the puck and wiring it casually. Then the little tidbit at 2:46.

^ THAT'S EXACTLY WHAT I THOUGHT!

He was pure Cherry-picking right there.

Nothing special about him, indeed.

There's plenty special about MacKinnon. Ya, maybe the kid floats a bit in juniors, but he's not drawing Kovalchuk comparisons for no reason. Scouts are virtually unanimous in saying he will be an impact scorer at the NHL level.

what? Are you implying that the "floater" comment you put on Mac is a compliment?

And he's not like Kovalchuk.... Come on.

Just because he does that little under-handed fistpump thing after scoring a goal, doesn't make him Kovy-like.

I mean I'm allowed to have an opinion, you know. And I for one don't see anything special about the guy.

If you're going to give a rebuttal, at least make it better than "umm..."

They're saying the logical leap that you made between "he floats" and "he's nothing special" is bat**** crazy. It's also not what GM17 was saying, although you said you agreed with him.

Because it is crazy to say he's nothing special. He's a very dynamic offensive player. He needs to learn how to play better defence, but that's true of most juniors superstars.

Actually what I was really arguing about was him alluding that the kid was like Kovy which is incorrect.

Also, I really dislike posters who don't reply with rebuttals but instead reply with sophomoric ones like "ummm".

For example, you replied to me with an explanation and everything. That's what I was expecting. I appreciate that.

And BTW, just because he is a "superstar" in the Juniors doesn't necessarily mean he'll be one in the NHL if or when he gets here.

There are elements of his game that are like Kovalchuk's. He doesn't use his size to the fullest extent, he has a wicked wrister and one timer, he sometimes floats a bit, and his skating ability is excellent. Obviously nobody plays exactly like Kovy, but there are similarities.

And no, of course not. There are plenty of guys who put up big numbers in juniors and then never really catch on in the NHL. But I wouldn't bet against MacKinnon.

You can't say this far away from the draft. Ebert was thought to be a lock for a top 10 pick this year, and then he dropped to the last pick somehow.

But unless something crazy happens, I expect him to be a top 5 pick.

And likewise I'm entitled to MY "assessment" as well.

I have my opinion on him and you have yours.

And it's my OPINION that he's nothing like Kovy.

Just like it's your OPINION to act like I'm ridiculing you for having one when all I'm doing is disagreeing that he's like Kovy. Sorry if it seems like I'm persecuting you or something.... wow.

Well, at least you decided to respond with more than an "Umm" this time.

Good thing I missed this mess.

Yes I think Mackinnon goes top 10. Very easily at that. Give the kid more than a 20 second clip to do him justice alhtough he sniped 2 goals and made a nice play for an assist in it.

I watched MacKinnon play in person many times during his two years at Shattuck. The kid is a stud.... Anyone who says otherwise doesn't know what they are talking about.

Exactly. You're entitled to your opinions, but you aren't entitled to make up your own facts. He's going top 5 guaranteed and he's currently the projected #1. Oh and he is only 16.

I think we'll see both MacKinnon and Seth Jones each carry that projected #1 draft position for periods of time leading up to next June.
