He won the Calder Cup this year. Segal was the Norfolk player who was offside when that controversial goal that should not have counted was scored in the finals.
Depth signing and a decent AHL player. There was a time he was considered a pretty good power forward prospect, but he never could quite stick at the NHL level.
Love the people calling it a goon signing. Clearly they've never actually seen him, he's far from a goon. I get it, it's a message board and so people are gonna throw some silly things out there. But this summer seems a little worse than normal.

Segal is actually a good 4th line RW option if Asham goes down as well. Not sure how people dont get that. The team needs call ups that can fill in a variety of holes

As if half the posters have ever seen any of these guys play. lol
For the record I've never heard of Brandon Segal, let alone seen him play...but in my defense I don't go around making statements about what kind of player he is.
He seems like a good guy and has worn letters on the teams he's played for.
I know he's a Yankees fan, and if I remember correctly, I think he grew up a Ranger fan as well. I seem to recall that from his WHL player profile back in the day. I liked him as a mid-round pick back in the day.
He's a crappy fighter, but he's not a goon. He fights like 4 times per season. He's a good AHL player--which was established in this thread already. Why the pointless bump?

why sign these depth players that have no future with NYR organization...much rather take a chance on Jason Wilson in the AHL who is young enough to improve...

Jason Wilson had a mediocre season in the ECHL. What makes you think he's capable of helping the Whale next season?
Part of developing our prospects is placing them in situations where they can succeed. You can't trot out an AHL team filled with prospects 24 and under, first or second year pros. That team would suck and our legitimate prospects wouldn't flourish with the team getting killed each night. You NEED good, veteran AHL players to field a competitive squad and benefit the younger guys. Guys like Newbury, Kolarik, Deveaux, Bell, Vernace, etc are down in Hartford just for that reason.
And still, Segal has over 100 NHL games under his belt. He's not worthless. I'd bet my house that Jason Wilson or one of our other non-prospects never sniff that amount of NHL action.
