Coaches are hired to be fired. His term here is a stepping stone that builds his resume. Shaw will find a perch somewhere and have success. Hard to credit him 100% for the PP if only because that was TMac's role in Detroit, but the there are a lot of positives he can point to about the team results and his part in that.
As fans, we are more intrested in winning the Cup so see his tenure more here as failure, but the team record with him on the bench has been impressive. He would understand if we would be naturally rooting for the new AC's coming in. As a guy who did give it his all here and seemed respected by the players, we should all wish him great success in his future.
Build on what success? Our PK sucked except for like 5 games where it was actually on a roll somehow. Anyways good luck to you Shaw, can't say I'm sad that you're leaving.

I attribute that period of PK success to the extremely scientific notion of "Even a blind squirrel finds a nut sometimes".

His delineated duties were the PP vs the PK. Woody was the maven of the PK and deserves the "F".
If he was in charge of the power play, then we actually should be grateful. Our PP was great for the most part, 2nd in the league percentage-wise, tied for 2nd in PP goals. Shaw had a lot to do with that. Not all good teams have a good PP, Chicago is almost dead last.

And to be fair, its a coaching staff. The PK philosophy was not working and the staff needed to come together and insist on a change. Someone needed to insist. The personnel might not have been the best but it was better than bottom tier. Shaw could have been an agent for that change so he can share in a piece of the blame there too.
Off topic, if there was a philosophy of sticking together as a coaching staff on decisions; agreeing and supporting each other even if there was something obviously wrong, my hope is that will end with the two non-TMac AC's and direct and constructive debate will be elevated in the new staff. When Brett Hedican is complaining on live TV about the passive philosophy on the PK, you have to believe it must have been raised in the locker room as a suggestion by the players, but that was clearly dismissed by the coaching staff.
Since this is a Matt Shaw appreciation thread, I think we can be positive and wish him well. As I said, he would understand our allegiance to the team and our desire to see the new AC's do well, but as a human being who's by all accounts worked his arse off for the team while here, we can be thankful and hope good things for him.
Still dont get why we fired Shaw over Woodcroft. Shaw managed a part of our team that was actually effective. Woodcroft didn't
Woodcroft was demonstrably effective as video coach. Not so much recently. Shaw did not hit the benchmarks to be considered effective although he also didn't hit the benchmarks hard.
Shaw was the coach of the dmen this past season and goals allowed went up slightly, much more if you consider the leaguewide drop in goal production.
I was not impressed by Shaw promoting a passive defense in an interview during the season.
