So is a move like this significant only to the Whale, or do you guys think Sather signed him to free up a CT dman (Erixon?) to come up to the big club?
Looking at the Rangers D,Erixon could be in the NHL with the Rangers.
Redden won't be with the Whale next season. Many of the Whale D are gone. Bell is a free agent. Valentenko went to Russia. Nightingale signed an AHL deal with Syracuse.
Rangers have identified a bunch of guys they want in Hartford and are moving on them--Newbury, Haley (either AHL or NHL-2nd year is a one way), Segal, Pyett, Collins. Most of these guys have some NHL experience--which can come in handy. Can't have just a bunch of 1st and 2nd year pros--you'll set your team up to get knocked around.

i wont be shocked if Haley starts the year on the NYR and stays the whole year.....i doubt he came here to play in the AHL....he did get some NHL ice time on the Islanders....he will be Prust's replacement....Pyatt will replace Mitchell and Asham will replace Fedotenko

I think its more likely Asham replaces Prust, Pyatt replaces Fedotenko, Halpern replaces Mitchell, Haley gets the Newbury treatment.

I'm a big fan of Haley's. But at least at this point in time he could go either way to start the year--NHL or AHL. I think if you go back to the Haley signing thread--you'll see either me or Jonathan (but at about the same time) are just about the first two people on the Haley bandwagon and we both mentioned Prust. The several posters before us were like 'WTF!' and making all kind of sarcastic remarks. They obviously knew very little about him. That being said if I were to say anyone was fitting in for another--it would be Asham for Prust, Pyatt for Fedotenko and Haley for Mitchell--in terms of immediate role with the team and likely ice time and there is at least one factor that concerns me about all the new guys. Neither Asham nor Pyatt took one penalty killing shift last year and Haley only did a little for the Islanders. That role was a bread and butter role for both Prust and Fedetenko. We shall see what Torts does. If I were to guess Pyatt for one will be working on that next season.
Not up. RB is just speculating that in the new CBA there will be another amnesty buyout, and that we'll use it on Redden. He's probably right.
If there is a lockout,Redden has a 1 way contract and he won't be allowed to report to the AHL. If there is a CBA struck before training camps begin in mid-September or at some point in the fall, there will be compliance/amnesty buyouts in the new CBA. Craig Custance has written about compliance buyouts. Arthur Staple of Newsday has written about compliance buyouts. Redden will be bought out and he can sign with another NHL team. The NBA saw players getting amnestied during training camps.
Indeed, I'm sure Collins is a heart-and-soul character type of guy. He has those winning intangibles.
Or he's more of a defensive‒defenseman that won't post fancy numbers?
Look, I know absolutely nothing about this guy. Do you? It's pretty hard to judge the quality of an AHL defenseman looking at his stats, knowing nothing else.

so your thinking amnesty buyout? It would be a good thing for Wade. He has done a good job collecting his millions in the minors. You think only 1 buyout allowed or a few per team? Although I dont see another Ranger that will get one
