2012-2013 Season predictions

Ok, so this will be the thread to make your predictions for the upcoming season.

No whining or complaining unless it has to do with how slowly you have to type for this website to capture everything that you are trying to write. (what is up with that?)

My first prediction, Not only will the Wings still make the playoffs, they will have a better record than the Wild and they will make it to the second round.

Too soon for this thread, for me. The off-season isn't even over yet.

Ah, screw it, I'll give CB something to chew on....

Wings win the Cup!

I like the first prediction. I think we'll finish better than the Wild.

I'm not very optimistic, but still more optimistic than SOME people around here.

6th seed, 1st round exit, but we'll improve in 13-14.

Holland will prove to the league that you can win a cup by staying 15 mill under the cap and managing your assets properly. Next year you will see a select few users on HF complaining how all teams should dump their large salaried players so they can be mor like the Wings.

My prediction is 2nd-3rd round loss to which ever goalie gets hot on us.

All things considered, the Wings are still a playoff team...I wouldn't be shocked if we see the same 4 teams from the Central make the playoffs again this year.

And for the record, I would laugh hysterically if the Wild don't make the playoffs. I'd bet on them getting in though.

-With Renney running the PP I expect we finish top 5 in PP percentage.
-Franzen gets a firing going under him, Renney's PP formula helps, Franzen pops 33 goals.
-Filppula exceeds last years performance, gets 70 points
-Brendan Smith or Gustav Nyquist win ROY
-Datsyuk plays 75 games and gets about 80 points.
-Howard plays great, and the Monster plays 30 games and rips it up.
-The defense stink it up, and we trade for Bouwmeester at the trade deadline.
-Wings place 6th in the West, upset the Sharks, and then go on to the second round only to lose to Vancouver in 6 games.

And my favourite:

Nashville misses the playoffs.

Scrambling to make the tourney again. 8-9 seed. If they make it they're done in 5. Tootoo takes a deflating stupid penalty in game one for elbowing a Sedin and gets suspended for the remainder of the playoffs. Pav in his frustration beats up Babs. Pandemonium ensues resulting in fans and players fighting in the stands. Fil, after a career year of 106 points wins the Conn Smythe even after only playing 5 games. He then signs a 5 year deal with Nashville at $2.6 mil per season and Holland proclaims that he made a run but he didn't want to over pay. He will then tell us over and over that he likes our team.

I'll reserve my predictions for a little later, but all of these predictions (minus the bolded) would be amazing if they came to fruition.

Seriously I suspect if they stand pat the Wings will be an 8th seed and lose in the first round. I figure Z and Pav have enough heart that they carry us into the playoffs with gutsy performances. I also predict endless stupid penalties from Tootoo and at least one suspension.

19:th in the league. No playoffs and no good pick

I'm watching for the younger players to fill out the void.

If Nyqvist and Smith (and the goalies) can step it up we might make the playoffs.

This is hard to do not knowing the total rosters as things can still change not only in Free agency but in potential fall out from the CBA. Most crucial to this is the Weber situation with him Nashville is a playoff team without him they are in big trouble.

1.) LA (I think they live up to how they finished last season)
2.) Vancouver
3.) St. Louis
4.) San Jose
5.) Chicago
6.) Detroit
7.) Anaheim (if Ryan stays or good package comes back)
8.) Colorado (young team has a good year)
9.) Dallas (tough division, goalie MUST stay healthy for them to make post-season)
10.)Phoenix (Smith comes back to earth)
11.) Minnesota (injuries continue, youth isn't ready)
12.) Edmonton
13.) Cagary (finally stops being just good enough in the seoncd half and sells some guys)
14.) Nashville (they are forced to dump Weber crushing the locker room and really struggle)
15.) Columbus (Rick Nash isn't moved before the start of the season and things get really really ugly)

Optimistically:
  • Pav & Hank both go north of 80 points
  • Howie is in the hunt for the "Vez" but just misses a nomination
  • The power play is vastly improved from last season and finishes top-10 in the league
  • Brendan Smith wins the Calder
  • Nyquist puts up 50+ points
  • Helm scores 20 goals
  • Ryan Sproul makes an appearance in the 'chel

I agree that it is too early to make efinite predictions for all the teams but from what I see, the Wild are done making moves and the Wings could possibly get better. And even with our current roster, I don't think the dynamic duo in Minnesota pushes them above us.

And is anyone else having problems getting all the words typed into this site? When I come here letters are getting dropped all over the place.

Ditto.

Still think the Wings are a playoff team.

Don't expect St. Louis to be as good and Chicago is still flawed.

5-8 seed and a first round loss.

Trending down:
Pavs numbers take a hit with no proven top 6 additions
Z's numbers continue to drop off
Kronwall struggles a bit with an increased workload
Bert continues to fade
Penalty kill

Stays the same:
Mule hits 50-55 points
Cleary hits 35-40 points
Samuelsson pretty much replaces 90% of Huds' point production

Trending up:
I think Fil generates more points than Z
Helm hits 30-35 points
Ericsson makes a big jump
Nyquist and Smith will obviously trend up
Jimmy rises to the challenge
Power play

Hopefully we get very, very lucky on the injury front. If we lose Pavs for any length of time it could be far too deep a hole to dig out from. Oh and LOL at all the butt hurt people crying about the Wild.

I thought I would make this thread sometime along the road, after offseason would be done.. And I sincerely hope it isn't that for us.

I predict we make the playoffs. And leave it that for the moment.

Unexpected players step up.

Some one from our roster wins a trophy at NHL awards.

D struggles.

Powerplay won't be better than last year.

Ken Holland makes a good move that melts the heart of WingedWheel.

That's it for the moment.

Oh wait no it isn't.

LOl, come on guys let it go. We don't have rivalry, do we? They got 2 free agents that we would/could have needed. Relax, this is getting ridiculous.
