Insane shot. He seems like a great guy and genuinely wants to improve his game. You'll get a fine backup PP guy once the season starts.

Couture notched an assist on the GTG which his team won in OT 3-2.

Would not have cleared waivers.

And that he is the alternate/assistant NHLPA Rep may have something to do with that as well.

Maybe they gave him the option of playing in Worcester or Europe, and he chose Europe.

Wingels playing in Europe is not a bad thing - as good or better than the AHL for his development moving forward.

Seems like a really weird choice to me - he's going to the 2nd highest level in Finland, where even the top producers have trouble fitting FEL rosters. I'm not sure why he would go play there, but at least he'll be able to play a top role as much as he can. Will it do him any good, that's another thing.

A very easy argument could be made that the league he's playing in is not as good as the AHL is right now.

I thought it was the top division not the second. So i would agree. At least he's playing and getting a chance to be a dominate player.

Kurz-
According to my friend @billmeltzer, the league Wingels is joining is the "top minor league" in Finland, "step below" SM Liiga. #SJSharks

The AHL is the top minor league in the US. A step below the NHL. That doesn't say anything - there are multiple leagues better than the AHL.

Marleau and Clowe are in Vail for a sort of 'mini camp' thing with a bunch of other NHLers, they're all training with Andy O'Brien (a strength and conditioning coach).
