Don't know if Ufomammut does (haven't ever seen them, but I will at MDF in may), but Sleep didn't when I saw them. They did play a portion of it, but that setlist was focused on playing the entirety of the Sleep's Holy Mountain album rather than Dopesmoker/Jerusalem.

Stoner doom is still a type of doom. Would definitely characterize them as stoner doom as opposed to stoner metal (which is more like Orange Goblin, Karma to Burn, Saviours, etc.).

Their Awake? album is effin amazing and worth checking out.
Haha, don't take this the wrong way but your comment is hilarious to me, as Zao are pretty much freaking icons of their genre. In my mind it would be just the same as some one saying they found this cool hidden band and proceeded to post slayer vids.

That being said, I'm glad you discovered them and like them, they are a great band. IMO, Liberate Te Ex Inferis is their best album...

My fellow Metal brothers and sisters, can we agree on a rule where if we're quoting a post with a few videos, that we don't include the youtube links in the quoted portion? It causes a lot of lag, especially since this thread is particularly video heavy.

On a less serious note, here's some Bolt Thrower

I actually found them in 2004 and only one metalhead has ever heard of them, so sadly they aren't popular anymore. That said I effin love them. My favourite album was "The Fear Is What Keeps Us Here", but when Awake came out that became my favourite.

Actually Bloodbath is a pretty terrible band, so yeah BT destroys them. But what I find hilarious is the contradiction of death metal bands music and what they write their lyrics about. In all the death metal bands I listen to they play such a dark style of music and all their lyrics are either about antiwar or anti-humanity. I totally understand singing about death, murder, darkness, no hope, etc. but anti-war and anti-humanity (or humans are the biggest scum of the earth) is pretty stupid. Leave those segments for the crappy punk-pop, punk, and rap hippie groups.

BT is a great band, one of my favorites so I wont disagree about that. But how is Bloodbath terrible?

Uhhh... what the juddering **** are you talking about?

Death Breath's "Coffins of the Unembalmed Dead"
Quote:
The dead will rise
Injections to open up their eyes
So cold
Cannibalism cannot be controlled
Craving flesh
Specimen not decomposed but fresh
From shallow graves
Tomb legions charnel and depraved

The reviving of fresh corpses
Rigor mortis in reverse
Sepulcher violator
Hijacker of the hearse

Coffins of the unembalmed dead

Body minus head
Limbless trunk twitching on a bed
Of stainless steel
At the altar of necromancy I kneel
The dead will walk
Head minus body starts to talk
In the night
Unholy invocations I recite

The reviving of fresh corpses
Rigor mortis in reverse
Sepulcher violator
Hijacker of the hearse

Coffins of the unembalmed dead
Morbid Angel's "Chapel of Ghouls"
Quote:
Ghouls attack the church
Crush the holy priest
Turning the cross towards hell
Writhe in [sings "with"] satan's flames

Crush the priest
The feeble church

Dead - your god is dead
Fools - your god is dead
Useless prayers of lies
Behold satan's rise

Crush the priest
The feeble church
The family of dog
Lust upon my altar

Demons attack with hate
Satan in the fires of hell awaits
Death against you all
God hear my death call

Entombed's "Left Hand Path"
Quote:
I am my own God
Master slave and I will be beyond the grave
No one will take my soul away
I carry my own will and make my day

I am my own God
See the truth beyond
Through endless lies thy kingdom come
Glorified wisdom illumination tool
Self deceit it's the golden rule

Live your life you're gonna die your own death
There's no one above that's gonna take your breath

May the evil drown in its source

I dip my forefinger in the watery blood
Of your impotent redeemer
And write over his thorn torn brow
The true Prince of Evil

What man's created
Man can destroy
Bring to light
That day of joy
Cruciamentum's "Convocation of Crawling Chaos"
Quote:
As the sun sets and the moon is risen, a sense of dread is blown on the horizon
Timeless blasphemies lurk in obscured places
Amongst ancient ruins, under shrouds of nocturn, hooded figures gather to perform unholy sacraments
"Ea! Ea! Nyarlathotep!"
The sun will die heralding an aeon of obscurity
"Ea! Ea! Nyarlathotep!"
In pestilent dreams his spectre is vicinal
Between realities I slip...
Here, the vile pounding of distant drums and the dissonance of tuneless flutes resound

Demigod's "Towards the Shrouded Infinity"
Quote:
Grip of dark eternity
Dwell in infinite misery
Through darkening I came
With agony I now reign

Thee, the suffering soul
Deceased dwell below
Thee, shall be despised
As I'll by thy lord
Thee, the perished
In the shadows beneath
Veiled are the dying souls from reality

Towards the shrouded infinity

The dawn of gods
Shall bring the truth
For the lifeless
In the shadows beneath

Thee, the suffering soul
Deceased dwell below
Thee, shall be despised
As I'll by thy lord
Thee, the perished
In the shadows beneath
Veiled are the dying souls from reality

Deification of blackened skies
Towards the shrouded infinity

Lifeless are their minds
In the embrace of death
In infinity awakened souls
Shall remain forlorn
The journey through eternities
Mists and blackened skies
I became the one
Beyond all mortal purity

Thee, the suffering soul
deceased dwell below
Thee, shall be despised
As I'll by thy lord
Thee, the perished
In the shadows beneath
Veiled are the dying souls from reality

Lie in infinity
Ghoul's "Bury the Hatchet"
Quote:
Whispering voices in darkness
Their footsteps were really quite loud
They came for a skull made of crystal
They’ll leave in a burial shroud

Gathering in the graveyard
A cult and a secret cabal
They’ll search every inch of the catacombs
Kill them all, kill them all!!!!!

Peel their skin
Put the knife in
Burn them without and then burn them within!
Polish the headbone and try not to scratch it
Turn them to Rot Gut
Bury the hatchet!

Torches arranged in a circle
Bathing the cultists in light
We crept through the shadows
Trying to hear them and stay out of sight

They spoke of a power contained in the skull
They said, it was brought from the stars
That thing we’d been using to crack open walnuts
Used to crack walnuts on mars?

Peel their skin
Put the knife in
Burn them without and then burn them within!
Polish the headbone and try not to scratch it
Turn them to Rot Gut
Bury the hatchet!

We broke up the party with a Molotov blast
They turned into human torches when we doused them in gas
The screaming was loud it would get louder still
As I slit their bellies open in my frenzy to kill
Axes shattered vertebrae, spinal fluid squirts
Cleavers entered craniums, ruining white shirts
Burning eyeballs guttering and cooling into clots
Being hung by their intestines had them tied up in knots
Skin was pulled from muscle and devoured on the spot
Cult members dying and left there to rot
Some of them made it, I’m sorry to say
Next time they come here we will find a way to
Bury the hatchet!
Victims decaying in the darkness
Their screaming was really quite loud
They came for a skull made of crystal
They left in a burial shroud

Moldering in the graveyard
Their bones will be nibbled by rats
If they’re going to steal the crystalline skull
They’ll have to do better than that

Peel their skin
Put the knife in
Burn them without and then burn them within!
Polish the headbone and try not to scratch it
Turn them to Rot Gut
Bury the hatchet!

What death metal band has anti-war lyrics? If there's any, they're the minority. Some bands, like Bolt Thrower, can engage in topics about the "horrors of war," but their persepctive isn't so much about being "anti-war" as it is the darkness and all-encompassing violence of war. Most death metal bands have lyrics in the realms of gore, zombies, Lovecraft, anti-Christianity, violence, death, or existential darkness.

It may apply to crust and grindcore music.

Yeah, there's plenty of anti-war/leftist crust and grind. But that's a staple of punk music, so it shouldn't surprise anyone.

On the topic of war/political metal bands, I think Misery Index doesn't get as much love as they should. Very consistent.

Also, Martin Van Drunen (Asphyx, Hail of Bullets, Pestilence) is in another dm band called Grand Supreme Blood Court which just released their first LP.

The swords' new album is a real ass kicker! A must for the retro/stoner metal fan.
