So the coverart for the first Down EP has been released:

I love it. Very eerie, dark, and Sabbath-esque.

Eh.
I'm not a fan.
At all.
The border is really generic with the blood splatter and wear; it looks like those flyers that got passed around at my high school for local shows (i.e. something made by a 16 year old).
The cross looks like it is supposed to be the focal point, but the lights are coming across it and the cover just ends up looking like a mess with way too much going on.
Not only is the cross being eaten up by effects, but whomever is wielding the scythe as well.
Way too noisy.

Yes, the US Pentagram. Chilean Pentagram played this past festival. Walked back to my hotel with their vocalist. Nice dude.

Elysian Blaze - Blood Geometry. Definitely in the top 3 for albums of the year so far for me. Amazing thick and dark atmosphere. Over two hours long as well.

Hey check out this neoclassical band from Montreal. They sound like a mix of Sonata Arctica/Wintersun and Castlevania all at once. They are called Elderoth.

The Devin Townsend Project previews keep on rolling in for Epicloud.

Sounds like a fun album. Really liking the sound of Liberation and Grace so far.

The new Thresholdsong is great!
Thanks for the recommendation, I'll put it on the list of stuff to check out.

On the topic of Threshold, they just put the following vid up on their youtube account in tribute to Mac who passed away a year ago. This was one of his last performances with the band as I think he left before doing any of the DR tour.

Thanks for posting that, I'd forgotten they had plans to release some EPs. I'm liking the sound of this first one already

Do you know if that Sept 18th release date is worldwide or just N.A.? Had a look on their site but I didn't see any indication of it being one or the other.

EDIT: Just found out Terrorizer are streaming King Of Asgards new album for free. Don't know how long they will be doing this or if it will work outside the UK but if anyone wants to try and listen to it, this is the link. The CD of it and my copy of the new Korpiklaani album just shipped out today. Can't wait.

I was hoping this band would be good, but just some bland metalcore...

Easily one of my favorite black metal releases in the last few years, only ones I can think of that I'd give higher marks are Beherit's Engram and Katharsis' Fourth Reich.

I'm a big Death fan, but I'd rank it as such:

Symbolic
Human
Leprosy
Spiritual Healing
Scream Bloody Gore
Individual Thought Patterns
Sounds of Perseverance

Flame away.

I think Human is my favourite, considering it touches on some Prog/Jazz elements but remains a cohesive death metal album featuring some tasty thrash riffs.

I think the more prog-oriented efforts from Chuck and co. are a bit hit and miss.

I too would place this release along Beherit's Engram as one of the best offerings in the genre in the last few years

That`s why I enjoy it....although Cynic did it better with Focus at the time.

So I just found out about this thread about a week ago so now I feel a little bit compelled to share something.

Some former bandmates of mine just dropped a new album and if you are into stuff that is instrumental and progressive then this will be worth the listen. They have been compared to Tool before just to give you an idea. I'm trying to help them get it out there a little bit so if you dig it please pass it along. You can listen to the whole album here and buy it for only $5.

My fav metal bands are as follows

Metallica
Megadeth
Nightwish

Gonna see Nightwish again this year in October, they put on an awesome show. If you guys haven't checked them out, you should do so, especially the Wishmaster album.
