I'm excited about the Philly move but also weary. It's great that something happened but Weber in the East makes me nervous especially on a loaded Philly team and if Pronger gets back to 100%... Look out.
Why cant the Leafs supposedly the richest team in the sport do something big like this..
I understand Basketball, baseball were a tier 2 team compared to the financial powerhouses like Miami La Nyc Boston
But this is hockey and were always worried about stepping on peoples toes when were the big wallet in the sport
Whats the point in being the richest team if you never utilize your money...We act like Winnipeg
Perhaps not Weber but we should have done this with someone at sometime
Burke already did something similar with Kessel. He didn't offersheet him but used the threat of it cause Boston didn't want to pay Kessel what Burke would pay him.
The Leafs have the best compensated management group in the league and spend to the cap every year. Lombardi is a prime example of using the Leafs financial muscle.
What we need is to hit some unexpected homeruns like Philly did with Carter, Richards and Giroux. Boston hit some unexpected homeruns with Bergeron and Lucic. Detroit has also. Even the Pens with Goligoski and Letang. Nashville with Weber. I could go on but you should get the point.
Adding guys like Schenn or Kulemin via the draft are nice but hitting an unexpected homerun is what sets a lot of the upper tier teams apart from the rest of the league.
Really? Take Stamkos and put him on the Leafs and it wouldnt be close. Throw Stamkos in with Kessel and Lupul and they all get 90 pts. Do I think Stamkos would get 60 goals still? No probably not but I would say he gets 50.
It is too hard to tell where we would have finished but Stamkos is worth those 4 1sts.
