New CBA has to be finalized before Burke makes any more plays on Luongo with that contract IMO

Actually I think, if a CBA can be reached in August, we could see an unusually higher number of trades/signings in September/end of the offseason ... I think that's holding up a lot of activity right now

But if he can improve defensively, with his size and shot, he could bring an element not many others on our team can. So hopefully Carlyle can have a good influence.
We better sign Fraser! I can see him as a 6th defenseman on the Leafs possible next year.I hope he has an unreal camp and makes the team. The guy is nasty, mean and tough as hell!

Phaneuf - Gunnarson
Gardiner - Holzer
Liles - Franson/Fraser

Fraser was great for the Marlies after he was acquired, I hope they resign him as a leader at that level .. I don't have much expectation of him making it to the Leafs, nor an impact at that level

Goaltending is far more important. We could go out and trade for Nash and Ryan and even bring in a #1 centre while we're at it (obviously these three things are not likely possible given our organizational depth) and we'd still be a gamble to make the playoffs.

I know a lot of you wanted him:

Ducks sign Daniel Winnik. @icemancometh has it as two-year deal for $1.8-million a season.

How many bottom 6 players does a team need though?

A contract for a scrub counts against the 50 contract limit the same as a elite contract does.

Desjardins estimates that about 40% of the game is captured by Corsi analysis.

It's too bad we are all ready loaded on the wings because I think Voracek would have been a great target to go after if Weber does go to Philly.

Fits our age group, still has untapped offensive potential.

Unless we can unless MacArthur, Connolly and/or Lombardi, it doesn't make much sense.

Take it for what its worth to you guys as usual, but it sounds like Shane Doan and Phoenix are a quite a ways apart in contract negotiations.

Phoenix would like him to take a discount, especially with the new CBA pending, and Doan would like to get a good contract before this CBA negotation really gets rolling.

He's been having discussions with several teams that include New York Rangers, (he's visiting New York today), Vancouver, San Jose, Pittsburgh, Chicago, Winnipeg and the Leafs.

He's planning on visiting several other cities in the next couple days unless New York blows his socks off!

Looks like the Doan ball is finally rolling!

Now that Gagner & Kulemin are signed...

Kulemin & Reimer for Gagner & a 3rd

Frattin & Edm 3rd for Bernier

wonder if he plans on going east-west, if hes starting in NY that would make toronto one of the next stops.

Sounds good. He deserves it. I'd love to see him in Pittsburgh.. Sadly. Him and Semin would be an epic off-season

Kunitz - Crosby - Doan
Semin - Malkin - Neal

Exactly what I was thinking

I'd love Doan though, he'd be a great addition for this team

a vet dman

How about Scott Hannan?
Ha size, a good stay-at-home game, can help take a bit of pressure off of Dion.....

ASSETS: Has good size at 6-1, 225 pounds and uses it effectively to play a tight defensive game. Is able to combine a physical defensive game with discipline. Can log a ton of minutes and leads by example.

FLAWS: Won't ever put up big offensive numbers, which is partly due to the fact that he's usually the first one back in terms of offense-defense transition. Is also somewhat limited in terms of natural offensive instincts.

CAREER POTENTIAL: Veteran defensive defenseman

Scott Hannan
Age: 33
Date of birth: January 23, 1979
Place of birth: Richmond, B.C., Canada
Ht: 6-1 Wt: 225
Shoots: L
Salary: $1,000,000
NHL Seasons: 13
Drafted by San Jose in 1997 (1/23).

Currently UFA
