My original point was that losing players of his ilk - of which this team has almost zero - hurt more than help IMO. We need big bodies, or those who play big, who can play on the wall, cycle and keep the puck in the offensive zone. As well as add some much needed jam. Poor goaltending will be even more glaring when you can't keep the puck in the offensive zone. The specific case I referenced were the Bernier rumours. IMO he has a lot to prove as far as being an upgrade in net over Reims.

Ask Frattin to stop shooting on low quality chances then.

Let's not get carried away - his name isn't Jason Blake.

The point is everyone likes what they see in Frattin, but his projection is somewhere between the 2nd and 3rd line, so his loss can be absorbed with minimal discomfort.

He hasn't addressed anything so far.

JVR was one of the only things Philly had going for them last years playoffs.

I still can't believe we got JVR for Schenn

Maybe Philly didn't scout any of our games last season?

Whatever the case this may go down as Burke's best trade for us when all is said and done (I'm aware of the Gardiner-Lupul trade)

I hope Burke is pursuing Michal Rozsival

I beleive hes the 2nd best avaiable UFA right now (Semins 1st but we dont need Kessel 2.0) and he plays with TRUCLENCE He would be a huge upgrade over Gunarsson for Phaneuf. I think we'd have enough space to resign Franson along with Roz and make it a war for ice time, giving us a nice depthy D, with a legit top 4. Dion,Roz,JM,Gardiner

Thoughts on Rozay?

id do it, with teams like Nashville and Islanders having so much cap room maybe move Komisarek and bring him in and i think our team could get better.

Doan is a better UFA too. haha!! i don't know enough about him to say yes or no really.

i hope we let Franson, Holzer and Komi fight for that last spot to see them play under Carlyle for a while. i'm sure that it's better for them, slower paste, hitting, blocking shots... Komisarek started good last year before injury, Franson is a slow skater and he was playing good in Nashville under kind of similar system. carlyle played him often when he showed up (compared to wilson) and holzer is also a shutdown guy so, i think were alright, and it would be nice to see if franson is good or what. i think he's going to do great this year.

If you could add one player without giving up assets and ignoring contracts, who would you add keeping in mind it would be to compliment who we already have? A #1 playmaking center such as Getzlaf to play with Kessel or do you outright go for a goal scoring machine like Malkin/Stamkos? A premier defenseman such as Weber or Chara? A goalie?

He's not the 2nd best UFA player available right now.

He doesn't play with truculence. He is soft.

Hes pretty under rated as a dman, hes definitely one of the better UFAs left, I put him at 2

He's not even the 2nd best UFA defenceman, let alone the 2nd best UFA overall.

Don't know where else to put this, but:

The Leafs should offer sheet Jamie Benn. Compensation would be steep (1-3rd round picks), but he'd address our top line centre long-term, and is the next Getzlaf. Some of the picks we give up could be recouped in other moves.

Gretzky always said you miss 100% of the shots you don't take.

I don't care if he takes 20 shot attempts a game. Atleast that means that if he's getting shots, then he has to be in the offensive zone.

Dallas would match any contract offer. Even if Burke offered a contract with a 7 million dollar annual cap hit, Dallas would match it knowing that Benn will be worth this kind of money soon enough.

Frattin is too undersized to be a prototypical PF. Not everyone who scores goals is a power forward.
