I'd prefer if we used someone in the system already like Johnny bower.

Won't Detroit want Hasek to play in their Alumni game though?

I would invite him to training camp. If he shows something worth keeping around, I'd do it.

Although it seems more likely he should go to a team that he has experience with...

He'd be a great option for Detroit. Gustavsson could actually benefit from learning a bit from Hasek, as they play similar styles. Although actually Gus always reminded me of Arturs Irbe...

I think Hasek will get invited to a few training camps, he will choose one of them, he will suck, he will not get signed.

I don't get why he is doing this to himself? I get that he has a love for the game, but why would he want to finish his career sitting at the end of the bench somewhere? I think if he comes back, things are more likely to end badly for him than well.

I guess you would be shocked to know that the Leafs played the trap to hold leads under Wilson. The problem wasn't system that's why Burke is looking for size up front which he was looking for even before Wilson was fired.

This team was bad defensively per say for the same reason why they weren't so good on the offensive cycle the forwards were no good on the wall leaving the D high and dry of support to do the simple task of getting the puck out of the zone that's why the team spent too much time being hemmed into there own zone something that changing the "SYSTEM" wont improve but player change will.

There's no miracle system that will fix a flawed roster of so many forwards who don't work well on the wall rather because of size or not.

This team under Carlyle will still for-check and be aggressive, yes even the D will pinch to maintain the cycle in the offense zone which will be part of the fix defensively to spend more time in the oppositions zone wearing them out as appose to it happening to us like it has. There wont be a drastic change in the way the team plays, that type of drastic change doesn't exist most teams play the same way anyway they're just better or worst at it than other teams and have better or worst goaltending that is the difference from team to team. "SYSTEM" is over scrutinized. LA didn't win because of SYSTEM, in fact they were so damn close to missing the playoffs.

Nice to see someone who actually knows something about hockey.

Getting sick of this "WIlson style was pond hockey and Carlyle sits all 5 players on our blue line and we will never attack" bla bla bla

We will still score goals and the style we play won't change that drastically and as you mentioned it will change based on the score of the game.

Our GAA is largely attribute to poor goaltending, a PK that was atrocious for half the year, and a young immobile Defence....

i heard prices are VERY high right now.

Apparently Burke has kicked tires on Backstrom, Gagne and Wilson.

As for goalies i'm told that he has kicked tires on Backstrom, Kipper,Thomas and Luongo.

Now dont hold your breath BUT i was told Burke has also asked about Weber!!!

I have no interest in paying the price to get Weber unless the package is centered around Phaneuf. Doesn't make sense to shed our offensive prospect depth to add Weber to Phaneuf.

The forward group also were just as much to blame as our D group.

Our wingers getting knocked off the puck just inside our blueline probably more then any team, not being able to maintain puck possession time in the other zone by cycling and for a good portion of the season the PK.

Hopefully the new PK specialist in town McClement helps continue to move our PK in the right direction.

Sign Doan... Burke said last season we were missing a big body veteran presence. Try out Kadri between Lupul and Kessel. If not, trade him along with a good package for Getzlaf.

Kadri + Colborne + Blacker + MacArthur for Getzlaf
Sign Doan
Connolly for 3rd

------

Lupul - Getzlaf (A) - Kessel
JVR - Grabovski - Doan (A)
Kulemin - McClement - Frattin
Brown - Steckel - Orr
-Bozak/Komarov/D'Amigo/Lombardi

Gardiner - Phaneuf (C)
Liles - Komisarek
Gunnarsson - Franson
-Holzer

Do people really think Phoenix has that good of a team? Sweet jesus no. They play a tight system. It needs to be done if you don't have a star goalie and the depth to run 3 scoring lines.

I'm pretty sure that those two did play on Team Canada together. Would take a hefty price though.

I agree. What I saw lots of times last year was lost boards battles near the defensize zone blueline. Kessel was among the worse at paying the price to get the puck out and we spent many nights with 2-3 minutes shifts against us in our zone and it cost us.

Defensive zone coverage is pretty simple and its really about outworking the opponent and being in the right spot to make a play no different than offensive zone play. Funny some guys on our team will battle along the boards in the offensive zone but not the D zone.

why not carry on the rich Toronto tradition of signing players inches away from using walkers to get around. Than the play a few games get hurt and retire. lol gilmour made it a shift.

When he was creating the TEAM USA for the Olympics, Burke was asked straight up that which defenseman in the NHL will he prefer to build his team around, if he could, and he answered without thinking ... Shea Weber.
