Players and Owners reach an agreement (MOD: circa 5am ET 1/6/13)

Quote:
The next stage is documentation and ratification of the deal with the start date and number of games in the 2012-13 season still to be announced depending on how long the final process takes.

Depending on when a new CBA is reached, the league - according to TSN Hockey Insider Pierre LeBrun - has 50-game and 48-game schedules drawn up. NHL commissioner Gary Bettman has said a regular season schedule of at least 48 games must begin by Jan. 19. The existing 2012-13 NHL schedule was already canceled through Jan. 14.
From: http://www.tsn.ca/nhl/story/?id=412844

Quote:
The tentative agreement includes a 10-year CBA with a mutual opt-out clause after 8 years, contract term limits at seven years (eight years for a team to re-sign its own players) and a 2013-14 salary cap of $64.3 million, a source confirmed to ESPNNewYork.com.
From: http://espn.go.com/nhl/story/_/id/88...nt-source-says

From the joint press conference:

Quote:
Elliotte Friedman ‏@FriedgeHNIC
Bettman: still a lot of work to be done, but framework is complete.
Quote:
Elliotte Friedman ‏@FriedgeHNIC
Fehr: hopefully we're at a place where ratification can get done quickly and get back to "business as usual."

The TSN article now lists the various known details. Highlights are 50/50 revenue split, 7 year contract length limits (8 if resigning own player)

Update on 1/12/2012 ~7PM EST:

Quote:
The National Hockey League Players' Association has ratified the new collective bargaining agreement reached with the league last week.

The NHL's Board of Governors already voted unanimously in favour of the new CBA proposal on Wednesday.

While the players' vote ratifies the new CBA with the NHL owners, a written memorandum of understanding must be completed before finalizing the agreement.

Edit: I'll keep the OP updated with various news articles, at least until we hit 1000 replies and someone else takes over

Would be nice to see some half empty arenas for the first few weeks of games.

Gold medal and NHL hockey all in a 24 hour period, great day to be an American hockey fan. Wonder what the long term damage is of this though. But in any case about time.

Have the ink dried yet? No? Then I take this as good news but not the final news.

Verbal agreement. Still need to dot the i's, cross the t's. Then ratification.

Lockout is close to being over (but not "unlocked" yet).

It would. Might help send them a message that they can't keep doing this every few years and still expect to see capacity crowds whenever it is they decide to start playing again.

If they know we'll keep coming back no matter what then they'll know they can keep on treating us (the fans) like ****.

Yep, a few hundred fans not showing up to a few games, I am sure this will financially cripple all the owners of the NHL.

That will show them!

The poster you originally quoted said "half empty," which would be a hell of a lot more than a "few hundred fans not showing up."

Remember that time when 60% of those polled on TSN said they were done with the NHL?

"The NHL is coming back... Are you?

No - 12.2%"

Once my buddies in Russia and Sweden have a moment I will try to get info from them.

I know i would get flamed when I said there was stuff going on in Europe late last night. What I have gethered is that the players who talked to the NHLPA at about 03:00 Moscow time where told to carry as per what they were doing. At the same time in Sweden, some of the Swedish teams were getting into gear to get replacement players for the players they expected to lost by next weekend games
