About the NHL lockout, I'm hearing...
...that there is a lot of backroom talking right now, and that we should see "something new" happen by early next week. I don't think anyone has an idea, though, which way things could break. Union is still adamant about that first year. The sides really aren't all that far apart, though. This shouldn't be all that hard to bridge. But that doesn't mean it'll happen. There are fragile egos on both sides and, as we've seen, they are fully capable of acting like little 2-year-olds when they don't get their way.
Meanwhile, life will go on with or without the NHL...
Nice article about Fehr's ascension to the NHLPA top job and how his confrontational approach to labour relations may represent a missed opportunity by the players, deleterious even to the final result.
“You know, I do have a comment on this,” Obama said. ”Every time these things happen I just want to remind the owners and the players, you guys make money because you’ve got a whole bunch of fans out there who are working really hard, they buy tickets, they’re watching on TV. Y’all should be able to figure this out. Get this done.”
