Bettman said league proposal does not change HRR. This offer will be off table when CBA expires.

Renaud P Lavoie @RenLavoieRDS
Gary Bettman said that NHL gived 250 million to 300 million more to the players today. 650 million more than the offer in July.

Bob McKenzie @TSNBobMcKenzie
Based on what I heard today, unless there's dramatic reversal by one side or the other or both, the lockout goes Saturday night at midnight. You can get bogged down with the #s, but all you need to know is NHLPA says won't take an actual decrease to $ spent on salaries and the NHL is asking for an immediate and significant reduction in the $ spent on player salaries. Not even in the same universe.

CBA negotiations won't end anytime soon
by LeBrun
Quote:
In the end, the same philosophical impasse remains: The owners want money off the top from the players, and the players in turn insist they won’t give up any current salary already on the books.
It’s a massive difference of opinion, in my mind even more critical than both sides actually agreeing to a percentage figure.

Points from Bettman's press conference:

- PA offer was pretty much the same offer three times (especially with respect to the first three years).

- His original 'lowball' offer was one which was an invite to start negotiations - cited NBA's first offer of 40.5%, and NFL's first offer of 45% (down from 60%) as examples.

- The owners won't be the ones to present a new offer, as they were the ones who presented the last - they're available to meet 24/7 if Fehr and the PA have something to say.

- The offer the owners made was a salary reduction of 9% in year one, 7% in year two, 4% in year 3, which would be covered in escrow.

- Unanimous vote from the owners in support of a lockout, even thoug he didn't need authorization from them.

Governors vote unanimously to approve lockout.

@DarrenDreger: Bruins owner Jeremy Jacobs called for an official, on the record vote to support lockout. Vote was unanymous. Solidarity recorded.

Told #AHL to allow NHL clubs to sign current 2-ways to AHL-only contracts after 9/15, but only if they were on AHL "clear" list last spring.

Donald Fehr tells Sportsnet there will be some telephone contact between PA and NHL in next 2 hours. But he's not sure where that leads.

Despite the reports indicating today's hearing was ruled in NHL favor, that's actually not the case.

David Pagnotta ‏@TheFourthPeriod

As mentioned, a full hearing will determine officially whether the NHL can legally lock out the Montreal players.
