Prospect Poll, 2012: #4

I suffer through terminal heatstroke and other inconveniences in order to bring you the next prospect poll after #3 is won by none other than:

Mark McNeill

Poor guy is already going bald!

#1: Brandon Saad, LW (81.82%)
#2: Teuvo Teravainen, LW/C (59.62%)
#3: Mark McNeill, C (48.00%)

By the way, if there is someone you want to see included in the poll to be voted on make sure you say something in the thread before you want to vote for him - I am pretty sure I have most the likely frontrunners for the first dozen or so but after that people probably have other options in mind.

I know, judging from the voting so far, that my next pick isn't going to get chosen for quite a while now, partly because he wasn't a high pick and partly because we are unlikely to see him for another four or even five years. Oh well.

Three days to vote.

By the way, the top Hayes should be Jimmy like it was in all the other polls. Uneditable, c'est la vie.

Also, you should removed Lalonde and add Nordstrom and Dahlbeck for the next poll.

Shalunov should be listed.. but he's not a better prospect than Calnan. More talented perhaps, but they're different players. Calnan's more a hockey working, two-way, gritty foward while Shalunov's more a shooter/sniper and offensive player.

Tough choice here between Morin and Olsen.

I will lean toward Olsen because I think he is more of a sure thing. Don't sleep on Morin though... he statistically outproduced Danault and McNeill in the CHL for their 19 year old seasons.

Year after drafted:
McNeill:
69 games, 31 goals, 40 assists, 71 points (1.029 PPG)
Danault:
62 games, 18 goals, 53 assists, 71 points (1.145 PPG)
Beach:
54 games, 24 goals, 39 assists, 63 points (1.166 PPG)
Morin:
58 games, 47 goals, 36 assists, 83 points (1.431 PPG)

Obviously scoring is different because Morin(and Saad) were in OHL, Beach+McNeill in the WHL and Danault in the QMJHL. Also teammates are a factor as well. But still it shows us that if Morin does improve his skating than he could become that top 6er we need. He has a great shot and can play some physical hockey.

Still for this poll, I'll take Olsen but Morin is my next pick for sure. Still, so hard to decide between Morin/Olsen though.

Olsen has less concerns IMO

I still think he'll end up as a good Top4 D

I don't get the love affair with Jeremy Morin. I like the kid, but he put up a great season in the OHL playing with Jeff Skinner and Gabriel Landeskog.

He then played awful in Rockford until his injury, and had an average season this year. I saw him in Rockford live for one game, and online for a few more and he looks more like he's trying to take Beach's roll in agitating and fighting instead of putting up points.

All the talk of how bad Beach was in his first season in Rockford, Morin was on pace for the exact amount of points.

ITA. I know there a lot of you who watch AHL games that I don't pay much attention to - but I think that Danault is someone that people (if that can watch Q games) should watch more. I haven't been able to watch the prospect games...but re CHL I really think Danault has been looking very good.

Danault has never gotten much respect from HF Hawk fans. Dunno why. Everyone here seems to love Mark McNeill.

McNeill is the closest we have to a "prototypical" power forward. Danault is not. Danault's game is probably more elite and nuanced than McNeill.

I know i annoy ppl harping on Team Canada stuff...but i'm not going to lie...the fact that McNeill was the Hawks first 1st round pick last year, failed to make world juniors (which, given the line up he should have made it) and now has failed to make Canada/Russia challenge is very unfortunate. Admittedly, the Team Canada scouting is near incompetent - but still...it's not cool that he doesn't have traction.

It's not that people don't like Danault.. but his ceiling is a very good checking centre/fringe top-6 foward. McNeill's is a good two-way, #2 centre.

I'm very high on Danault and I think he'll make the team before McNeill does.. but, once McNeill developes fully I have little doubt he'll be the better of the two.
