New Phoenix Coyotes arena deal likely to require public vote
Really depends on exactly what changes they're contemplating. If its just reducing the money Jamison would receive in the early years I doubt a new vote would be needed. If they're significantly shifting early payments towards the back of the deal then a new vote may be required.

If Jameson pre agrees to a new deal that only amends the original deal. He then can sign the old deal and after signing that deal he & the City then enter into an amended deal that was coincidently pre aranged. Then council would only have to vote on the amandment. Then only the amended terms would need to be voted on by councel. Only the emnded terms would be susceptible to a referendum.

Pretty sure we'll know the fate of our team (and the need for a new thread) around 2PM today.
Today could either be one of the greatest days ever or one of the worst.

Jamison, Glendale in meetings to rework Coyotes arena deal
Quote:
Those talks are intensifying today, according to those close to the negotiations. A reason is that Doan wants to sign a new contract with the Coyotes or another team before the current collective bargaining deal runs out Saturday night. A National Hockey League lockout will start Saturday night if owners and players can’t agree to a new labor deal.

According to the NHLPA, 283 players attended the meetings -- held Wednesday and Thursday in advance of Saturday's expiration date for the current collective bargaining agreement -- making it the largest turnout since the union ratified the CBA to end a lockout in 2005.

With Doan on board, I'd say the team is Jamison's. What a day!!!

And with only about 10 posts to spare... good day for the fans of the Coyotes! Congrats guys! Now we can all wait together until the lockout ends and hockey resumes!

Good for Doan to stay!

Nothing like down to the wire! I have to believe Doan signing means ownership is right around the corner! Hopefully not two weeks though...

While I think it's very encouraging, I've always felt Doan would not jump ship unless he knew for sure it was going to sink. So I take this to mean Doan thinks there is a good chance but I don't take it to mean ownership is imminent. Fingers crossed though!

Doan must've heard something he really liked from Jamison today. He must've. It's really a GREAT sign.

I'm guessing Jamison told him that he'd accept the lease agreement, as is, but has a responsibility to his investors to continue to negotiate the best possible deal.

Makes sense, right? Skeete puts an offer on the table and Jamison really had no other choice but to at least attempt to counter offer for the sake of JEG, right?

Doan then feels confident that even if COG tries to play hard ball, the deal still gets done. Am I out to lunch on this? Too much misplaced excitement?

JEG may close tomorrow before the CBA expires. I'm not sure they can join the club mid work stoppage.

That is something that I haven't heard speculated anywhere else, with the lockout could the purchase be consummated, good catch.

Jamison and Skeete were face to face negotiating today, it must have been productive for the signing to take place.

Either that or Doan knows the next season (whenever that is) is in Phoenix for sure and has an agreement with Maloney already that he'll trade him if the team relocates to a place he doesn't want to go.

It would be interesting to know what all was agreed to for sure...
