I did quite a bit of work on our Kamensky bio (concentrating on his time prior to Quebec/Colorado in Russia), which I think shows that prior to his injuries he was respected as one of the greatest players in the world right before coming over to America.

I'll take Darryl Sydor , D

Offensive defenseman with over 500 pts in the regular season , played over 1200 regular season games , played 150+ playoffs games and won 2 cups.

Lokomotiv will have a co-GM. He'll be by to make the next pick.

It has not been changed yet on ATD 2012 - Draft Thread VIII, the final one. Here's the link: http://hfboards.hockeysfuture.com/sh....php?t=1134463

I'm Co-GMing Lokomotiv Yaroslavl with VI.

Jay Bouwmeester , D

Might have disappointed in real life due to draft position and salary , but still a 25 minutes defenseman with over 700 NHL games under his belt with decent offensive numbers that should be a top pairing guy at this level.

My forwards list is still a mess... and I'm having a crazy weekend. I'm just gonna grab two of my favourite defenders available for now.

Paul Shmyr and Gord Fraser.

BB, you just about took my guy... Bouwmeester was pretty close to the top, but not quite.

- I am 31 today. Yikes

- vecens, i had a reply written out to your PM and... well, basically my work internet connection and computer screwed me over, and I havent had the time or the mental fortitude to rewrite it yet. sorry bro.

- I saw the whole Thoms fiasco briefly. Sucks.

Makes me feel good

My forward list is so messy it's not even a list , all I have is an unclear & shady group of forwards that I can't really rank with a potential for players I forgot because I'm too lazy to check past list one by one

No wonder I already took three defensemen.

I don't have an awkward ratio to express it but these two picks hurt.

I'm an idiot it was T18th in 1979 as "Paul Smyhr"

Knew we had to be close to the same age, but didn't realize your birthday was literally within a month of mine.

I am very careful whenever I write something that would be painful to rewrite... I copy before I hit send. Well my work internet went out as I was writing your reply , but not all my internet, just the external internet. So I sat there a good 20 minutes waiting for it to come up, and it never did, so I went to paste it into an email so I could send it from home, and.... I had copied my out of office autoreply in the meantime. I had no choice but to hope when the connection came up and I refreshed the page, it would still have my reply. But after 20 more minutes I had to give up.

Still not sure what happened because the guy in the next desk had full internet connectivity.

Bouwmeester isn't a bad pick by any means, but I'm not surprisingly not as big a fan of it as seventieslord.

Sweet didn't realize Hedberg's time had passed.

Our pick is unsurprisingly Slava Bykov, C. Bykov finishes up our top line of Kamensky-Bykov-Khomutov, a well-respected Soviet line from 1987-1991. this line was considered nearly the equal of the aging KLM line while it was together.

I'm working out right now, so more on Bykov in particular will come later probably as an addition to this post and bio thread.

Will someone PM the next GM please?

I'm surprised you didn't take him earlier. I was considering taking him as the makeup pick for Bill Thoms just to troll you.

The argument for J-bo goes far beyond icetime. He has really strong defensive stats. his coaches play him the most, against the toughest competition, and in defensive/pk situations. His Corsi Rel QoC and zone starts show this over the last 5 years.

He goes from good corsi to bad, so he's not SO good that his performance transcends the "disadvantage" he's given situationally (and guys who do, are already taken), but he's very heavily relied on.

That's what happens when one of your co-GMs lazily equates total points scored and grabby accomplishments like Soviet MVP etc with who Is better. (Hint it was me).

Bykovs soviet league finishes were on par with Drozdetsky's and obviously he did better internationally by not drawing Tikhonov's ire.

Bykov: 3, 4, 7, T8, 10, T11*, T11, 15 17
Kamensky: T3*, 4, T11*, T16
Khomutov: 5, 6, T8, T12, 14, T14*, T15, T15
Drozdetsky: 3, 3, 6, 9, T10, T13, T18

Can you seperate the finishes that take place until 1989 and those that take place from 1990 afterwards? The entire Green Unit left for North America in 1989-90 and younger players would soon follow.

So while there were still good players in the Soviet League after 1989, the quality of competition definitely suffered.
