2 Kings and Top Penalty Killers Info

I was reading some articles online about Penalty Killing, and in the middle of one about what makes a good penalty killer, was a link to Dobbler Hockey with a GA stats list from 2/29/12.

Richards and DOughty both made top 10. Richards as a total -3 (-5 + +2 SH) 119 min. is pretty impressive , that's allowing 3 goals in almost 2 full games played. That was before he scored his last 2 shorties.

It's expected from Doughty - but once again, the things that Mike Richards brings are not necessarily right there in the open for all to see. That's a pretty spectacular stat. It's sort of like that pass to Brown in Game 6, that led to Carter's game-winner (Cup-winner) - So smooth, simple, and fast, it's almost like it didn't happen - so it's easy to forget.

But it did happen.

And to think, there was a point in the season where I was down on him. How stupid I was.

No they're not and thats what makes him unique. His teammates see it, and appreicate him for it, all those things that never make it to a stat sheet, doing some many things right. I read comments from Mitchell, Greene and Scuds during his absense with the concussion in Dec. All cited the loss on ice, how smart he is, rarely makes a mistake in his zone, that he is like having a 3rd D out there and gives the opponents reason to pause. That can create a hesitation because they are never quite sure what's he's going to do, he never telegraphs and that is the point where he sees that in their eyes, hands, etc. and pounces

You weren't stupid, the head injury took his reg. season and the horrid effects of post concussion syndrome usually last several months. That spilled over into his game. He tried his best, but you can't play with a brain bruise. He should be 100% by training camp.
That's 2 years in a row he's had injuries affect his game, play, goals, points. I hope this year he stays healthy and with (finally after 2 years) regular skilled wingers, he'll be the monster Mike that I 've admired since 2005 when he hit the ice as a Phila Phantom.

That's pretty much why Sutter kept saying Richards' lack of goal scoring didn't matter. He brings so much to the team that isn't reflected on the scoresheet.

Oh, but I was. The stats referred to in the OP occurred while he was playing at less than 100%. And even at less than 100% he was still bringing it more than most guys who are 100%.

I wonder where Kopitar and Brown fit in on that PK list, anyone know?

The whole team tore it up on the PK in the playoffs, especially those two.

I was wondering the same thing actually.

Richards brought a more Aggressive pk mindset (in terms of generating offense) to the kings which Kopi and brown picked up towards the end of the season and the playoffs
