What's up with Irving?

Any word on what the hold-up is with Irving's contract?

He's waiting for the Kiprusoff-Thomas-Luongo-Ryan-Nash-Stastny 6-way trade to go through obviously...

Feaster is likely trying to avoid arbitration, but doesn't want to pay Irving top back-up dollar. Seeing as Karlsson is still on the books and Martin outplayed Irving down the stretch, Irving is probably getting low balled.

But to answer your question, I haven't heard anything thus far.

Total speculation on my part, but I would guess a lot has to do with Karlsson. I'd guess Feaster is trying to figure out what he can do with him before he extends Irving to a fixed amount. Irving clearly proved last season that he is a more reliable option to win games as a backup.

This.

Feaster is trying to move Karlsson. No doubt about it.

Doubt it. There's no market for backup goaltenders right now.

I'm guessing it has to do with 1-way vs 2-way more than anything else.

I'm sure Feaster would do his diligence and see if there is any kind of market for Karlsson first. If there is not, I expect to see Karlsson and Irving to both go into camp to likely showcase Henrik and at that time I expect him to be waived/demoted/sent to Europe.

This.

I really doubt that Irving or Feaster are waiting to move Karlson. That wouldnt stop a contract from being signed. If both parties are agreed upon a contract, Karlson wouldnt hold anything up.

Just because there isn't a market doesn't mean Feaster won't try to move him.

I'm not saying its anything to do with Irving, just that they will be trying to move him.

Maybe it's just me, but wouldn't they want to sign Irving BEFORE moving Karlsson? Moving Karlsson first kind of gives Irving the upper-hand in negotiations, knowing that he's got the backup job locked up.

Or, they could have a deal agreed to in principle, and Feaster is waiting for his Tavares for Karlsson trade to go through

He has to wait until after the Wahl for Mallin deal gets pocessed。

We have 47 contracts right not (48 once Irving is signed) if Feaster wanted to sign some of the camp invites it would be pretty hard. I believe he is trying to sign Irving the same day he trades Karlsson as it takes away Irving leverage but leaves us at 47 contracts.

Looks like things are getting dicey.

Leland Irving still not signed and the word around town is they
aren't even really close apparently.

Word is Irving doesn't want to accept a two-way
contract or a move to Abby this year.

Irving's agent is "Rich Winter". He has a high
opinion of Irving's abilities and isn't afraid to use Europe as a tactic.

I'm siding with Irving here, he clearly proved he is the best option for the backup role. He has earned that spot and he should be rewarded for such. If Feaster loses Irving in lieu of Karlsson he will be a total moron. Karlsson should be on his way out of the organization and Irving should without question be our backup next season.

If Feaster ****s this up he should be fired. Get it done and have him signed for at least 3 years.

Yep. There is no good reason he shouldn't get a 1 way contract.

There's a good reason for him to not get a three year one-way contract however. I like Irving as much as the next guy but he has 7 career NHL games. One year one-way would be ideal, hopefully with enough starts to give him a chance to prove himself. I guess we'll know more about Kipper's future plans next offseason too, and Rämö.

Irving's proved that he can become a backup goaltender. Feaster, give him the 1 way!

I would offer 1 year 1.2 million and not think twice.

Despite the criticism towards Irving (however ridiculous that sounds), he'll be a starter in 3 years in the NHL. He showed the same game for those 7 games consistently, so if fostered properly, he can play a good 50 game season IMO. Give em a cheap 2-3 year back up contract, and then give em a starter contract afterwards. We shouldn't risk giving away assets like him.
