He's re-signing in Phoenix guys, just waiting around for that deal to go through…

I'm sure he's got all kinds of offers from big teams and has yet to sign with one. Not shot Doan picks the Leafs anyway, he would want to go to a serous contender this late in his career with all this choice in front of him.

After Burke's comments about how he's been watching players sign for unreasonable prices, I doubt he offers a contract like that...

Curious as to what the highest salary people here would offer Doan is. I'd say I'd go 5 million per season at the high end. There's nothing not to like about his game. Not sure about a 4 year deal either though.

That would be something else. I'd love to watch his first game back.

This has the Rangers all over it. Sign Doan trade salary in Dubinsky, and Prospects for Nash they would still be under the cap because its at 70 million

if doan is the right guy for our top 6 (size, grit, veteran leadership, etc.), and if i were burke i would throw a contract like that his way.

Doan on our top line could mean kessel is used to land our 1C (getzlaf).

possibly:

lupul getz doan
JVR grabo frattin
deschamps McClement kadri
brown steckel orr

Agreed, definite possibility if they backed out from acquiring Nash and the past history with signing big name UFA's.

I think its the Islanders. They need to overpay to get talent due to their location, team status, etc and they CAN overpay for players with the amount of capspace they have. Another thing is that its a 35+ contract, so it will be on the books even if he retires, which is a possibility.

Why the hell would you trade Kessel away! Having our top 4 wingers as Kessel, Lupul, JVR & Doan would make up for a lack of #1C at this point, but we would still need to go out and get a competent goalie. Remember, JVR could POSSIBLY stick at C.

Lupul - JVR - Kessel
Kulemin - Grabovski - Doan

Or

Lupul - Bozak - Kessel
JVR - Grabovski - Doan

Both would be very nice looking top 6. Gotta think a Doan signing would make Kadri's chances of making the club go down.

I'm not so sure I agree with you on this. It's his leadership and work ethic your paying for. Signing Doan would be a similar move as when the Leafs signed Gary Roberts. Your adding a true pro veteran leader to your stable of young players who can show them the right way. Doan is a very big reason why the Pheonix has been as good as they've been in recent years. 3 years at that cap hit would be ideal. I guess if he's the guy you want, then pay the 4 years. That would be the cost of getting the player you want without expending assets. I'm not saying this is the best idea but it would not be terrible IMO. I personally don't think it would be Burke though, seems like a Holmgren type of deal.

You can scratch the Bruins off that list. No cap space for him. Pens/Caps

7.5m???

Can't be Burke.

Must be the smurfs ;-)

I don't even think this is legitimate to tell you the truth. Who's going to offer Doan 7.5 per?

Incredible.

I guess that we will see how much Doan loves the Phoenix area now. Nobody's beating that offer.

Definitely doesn't sound like Burke. If he was going to drop a 7.5 cap hit on a player..it better be Kessel when he's re-signed.
