Pretty damn pricey. BUT. It's only for four years. Doan is the perfect locker-room guy, perfect gritty player, perfect leader for our next few seasons when we're slowly turning over the roster and bringing in young guys.
I'd do it.
Lol he's so overrated.
And what do you mean only for 'four' years? What happens if it was a five year deal, would you say "it's only for five years"? That sounds like a hell of a long time for a 35 year old.
Doan has said that it's all about his family and where they would be most comfortable. Money probably plays a very small part in all this. Which is why I think this "giant' offer from an east team is irrelevant.
30M for 4 years is ludicrous. Doan is a warrior and a leader who brings a lot to the table but he will be 36 before the season starts and has only one, maybe two good years left. What you are going to do, play a 7.5M cap hit player on the third or fourth line for one to three years? Force him into a top 6 role to justify his contract?
I can't imagine Doan really cares about the money that much. An opportunity for the Stanley Cup and a place that works for his family, that has to be the priority.
I highly doubt he's going to get 4 year, 30 million.. That's more then Semin, and I realize how much intangibles he brings to the table.. But far too much.
All he has is intangibles. Top three minutes, but barely second line scoring, and the worst minus among all their forwards. Was it an off year or is he used up? He is a guy I would sign for no more than two seasons and not for close to that kind of money.
Any time you are locking a guy in but need him to be better than he was last season or it's a bad deal, then it's a bad deal. I don't believe he is after that kind of money.
