Doan will need at least so much money so he can fly in a private yet to his home in Arizona after practice.

Vast difference with the contracts, if you look at them in real dollars, Parise is makine 44 million in his first 4 years with 25 million of that in signing bonus's. Thats a full 14 million more than the offer rumored for Doan. Then factor in Doans over 35 and there is no comparision.

From what I've seen so far, there is zero chance of this happening in Winnipeg. Kevin Chevyldayoff is simply not this stupid. Garth Snow on the other hand...

Doan is not worth $7.5 mil and if someone signs him to that then good luck. He's a good player, but not for that kind of coin.

Thankfully, the Pens GM isn't this stupid.

If Doan received that type of offer, dont you think he would have signed already? No way he got an offer like this.

Maybe his age is a factor, but the numbers he put up last year are also the result of playing on lines that consist of Boedker and Vermette.

Bring him to the Leafs, 7.5 million in hand.
He actually spent most of the season with langkow. He has never really had the luxury of playing with a top line center.

That would be crazy if it was the Jets. Big time PR move that would bring in more talent and leadership, two things the Jets are lacking. 4 years though holy crap. Isn't Doan over 35?!

Curious. What huge, awful contracts has Snow come up with?
Don't say DiPietro because Wang and DiPietro's rep, ironed out that deal BEFORE Snow became gm.It was pushed back a yr because of trouble finding insurance coverage.

Below are Snow's longterm signings.
3 yrs/$9.3m for 27 yr old Moulson.
6 yrs/$33m for 21 yr old Tavares.
5 yrs/$14.8m for 23 yr old Okposo.
5 yrs/$15m for 23 yr old Grabner
4 yrs/$11m+ for 28 yr old Nielsen.
Which one was the stupid contract?

Pay doan 7.5mm on a 1 year deal is bad enough... But a 4 year deal? Who would be crazy enough to do that?
I thought Milbury wasnt a gm any more

I think this rumor guy misheard "thirteen" million as a "thirty" million.

13million/4years (3.25caphit) could be something realistic that Doan would get.

No GM will ever offer 7.5 million for a +35 player for 4 years. Nicklas Lidström was the last one to earn that much much, but... he was freaking Nicklas Lidström. Mr. Norris.

That would be sweet for any team. I expect Doan's cap hit to be around 4.5-5.5 on a 2-4 year term.

Totally agree.

I could see Chevy liking Doan as a player (big, physical RW who brings leadership, plays a power forward style and could be a mentor to Kane), but there are similar players who are younger and could have been acquired for less than than 7.5 million per year.

If the Jets offered that much to Shane Doan, it's a PR move because he's Shane Doan:

Doan is gonna go to a California team....not to a team where winters are -45. Just a hunch.

Doubt it. A 3.5 million cap hit is just as unrealistic as a 7.5 million cap hit.

I could easy see him scoring a $3.5M cap hit for 3-4 years. It is a thin UFA crop we have so... the $7.5M hit I just do not conDoan.

And if he were playing on Crosby's wing, there's no reason to believe he wouldn't pot between 30 - 35 goals.

5.0M would be a good amount for Doan...it's the term that would need to be negotiated...3 yrs would be what a team wants, and 4 years is what the agent would want...

He stays in the West guys, unless no one ponies up the 5.0M

I'm starting to believe it was the 'Canes that offered that. They want to get a top forward and expect that it would take a lot to convince Doan to go to Raleigh.

Wouldn't say so. Here's the +35 risk and quite long contract for his age.

5.0 million for a 1-year contract
4.5 mil avg for 2 years
4.0 mil avg for 3 years
3.5 mil avg for 4 years

I see it this way, so that 3.25 per year for 4 years ain't far away.
