I'm still hoping it is The Leafs that have offered it. Would love to see Doan in Blue and White this fall.

I hate to admit it, but I'm slowly starting to have this line of thinking as well. I'd love Doan in Raleigh, but that number is scary.

Why is everyone thinking it is so crazy? One of the best leaders in the NHL. Jagr at 40, signs for 4.5 million. Selanne at 42 signs for 4.5 million. And Doan at 35, who's put up points, with next to nobody on his line, who brings amazing leadership to a team is unthinkable at 30 million over 4 years? Minus bonuses his salary will be around the 5 to 6 mark.

Why is it crazy? Because he isn't an elite offensive player.

Respect has nothing to do with it.

In what 1500 games? that isn't elite offense.

Doan looks like he's lost a step which means he's on the decline. Any team that offers that deal is loco. Supply/demand at work again it seems.

Still think he stays in the West, but in the chance he does come out East...

PHI, PIT, NYR, CAR and BOS make sense. Of these teams I could see CAR or PHI making a ridiculous deal. TOR offering big money wouldn't surprise me either.

Of course, I want him badly on the Pens. Dupuis-Crosby-Doan sounds like a really versatile line.

Sounds like a classic PHI offer. They sign him and then trade him 30 days after teh season starts...

Because his body is breaking down due to his style of play and hes not an elite player like the ones you named were.

If you dont see a problem with giving him 7.5M for 5 years then i dont know what to tell you.

I say he has one good season left in him the way he plays, then his age will really catch up.

Not with who he plays with right now. Lupul wasn't either until he got paired with Kessel. You find the right guy to compliment Doan and his numbers will rise a lot. But with just numbers to the side, did you look at the Phoenix Roster last year and say to yourself "Well this team has the potential to make it to the Western Conference Final this year"? Cause I know I sure as hell didn't. And who lead that team to it? Not to mention 3 consecutive years of wearing the C for Team Canada. Doan brings much more to a team then 95 percent of the players out there.

Maybe his CURRENT numbers are not "elite", but when it comes to EVERYTHING else you look for in a player he exceeds it.

Looked good in the playoffs. I would overpay for a few years for Montreal and dump Gomez in Hamilton. Then strip the C off Gionta quick!

Yes he has great intangibles but not enough for me to see him being worth 7.5 mill for 4 years.

65-70 pts with leadership, that's an elite player imo. Just what he adds to your team. He's not what he was, but he doesn't have to be. He does need linemates to maximize him tho.

For the lines he has been on ... Those numbers are pretty damn impressive. His last half decent line was back in 05/06.

The last time Doan was a 65+ point player was 2008-09.
