Vancouver-Philadelphia

To

Edler(assuming he is willing to resign with them)

To

Brayden Schenn
Luke Schenn

EDIT: As a basis, with maybe some additions to even out value.

Why Philadelphia does it: They get a young all-star defenseman at the cost of forward depth and an underachieving defenseman It also makes room for Couturier in the 2C spot.

Why Vancouver does it:
We get an infusion of youth and toughness, getting someone who can play the 2C while Kesler is out, as well as swapping Edler for a RD, so Garrison can play on his more comfortable side. Both brothers have a high ceiling, and an injection of youth is what is needed to keep the team competitive long-term.

Philadelphia won't do it. They need to see what they have in L. Schenn first.

Don't get me wrong, Edler is an extremely good defenseman but Philly is giving up alot for him...

JVR is much better than Luke. I think you got the short end of that stick.

But they would want much more than this, trust me.

if we didn't want schenn for luongo, why on earth would we trade edler for him? i don't think that other schenn makes the difference.

1) The difference in value between Luongo and Edler is only because of the market, and to a lesser extent age.

2) Edler will likely be looking for a raise in the 6mil+ zone. It is possible that he throws our cap structure out of wack. The Schenns are both locked up long term at pretty decent cap hits, assuming they produce.

Edler is great, but there's no reason the Flyers should mortgage the future for him.

The only defenseman worth mortgaging the future for is Weber.

Unless Edler has a crazy-good year, I can see him signing between 4.6-5mil... maybe 5.5 at most. It would make him the highest paid d-man in Van, makes money compareable to Kesler, and a bit below the Sedins - where he belongs. Edler seems like he'd buy into the team's philosophy of taking a bit less to make the whole a bit better.

As far as the deal goes, I think we can all agree that the 2nd needs to be tossed out, for starters...

It's hardly mortgaging your future, I mean, you have Giroux, Couturier, Simmonds, all under the age of 25, and you'll be getting a 26 year old defenseman.

Drop the pick.

Both Schenns for Edler is probably value.

Wont happen and doesn't make a lot of sense but that's probably the value IMO.

Call me crazy, but I think the Flyers would turn down Brayden Schenn straight up for Edler. He was the main component in the Mike Richards trade and I can't see him going for anything less than a player of Richards caliber, which Edler is not. And I'm not even a big Schenn fan, I think he is overrated.

The Flyers made a big time investment acquiring Brayden Schenn. They are not selling that stock right now.

If Couturier doesnt pan out to more than a third line shut down center, the Flyers future center depth suddenly isnt as rosy.

Again, Edler is great, but the Flyers wont be dealing a huge part of their future for someone who isnt a franchise defender.

...

Alex Edler had 5 more points than Mike Richards last year... and he's a defenseman... and not 'known' as an offensive defenseman... and he's a year younger than Richards...

Richards was playing at an elite level before he got injured and when he returned, he played for a Kings team in Terry Murray's system in which no one could score. I think you are out to lunch if you're comparing Edler with Richards. It'd be like me comparing Del Zotto with Richards.

JVR+Schenn + anything other than giroux wouldnt even get Weber's left skate... why on earth would the preds trade a signed Weber for that .

I would do an Edler for Couturier swap straight up. Not sure if Flyers fan find it fair.

Edler is a top 15 Defensemen on the league and is still on the rise (had one bad playoffs). He is worth more than 2 Schenn's and a 2nd rounder. Luke isn't even a top 4 defsenemen, he would barley get a roster spot on the Canucks while Edler leads all Vancouver Defensemen in icetime. Brayden is a good prospect but that's hardly selling the "future".

You compared Edler to Richards in terms of value for a Schenn... I don't think Edler's value is that far off what the Flyers got for Richards: Schenn, Simmonds, 2nd Round Pick.
