Hejda definitely got better as the season went on. Hopefully he keeps that up, he has all the qualities needed to be the ideal partner for Johnson.

Keep in mind that he did come off a knee injury to start the year.

I don't think it was that. It looked mostly like a mental issue. He was, almost comically, always trying to do what he wasn't supposed to do and failing to do what he was supposed to do.

It was puzzling. It was like he was trying to play a completely different role than the one he was signed to do. Part of it might have been our coaches giving defenders the green light to pinch at will.

Hejda needs to stay put unless theres a good defensive d-man coming back our way

I'm hoping they split more defensive zone time three ways between Zanon/Hejda/ROB this year instead of two like we had last year. Hopefully Zanon can help in that regard.

If we sign O'Reilly from 3 to 4 million, Hejda's contract would be JUST enough to get us to the cap floor if we traded it away for nothing.

With us picking up another defensemen, alarm bells are ringing for me.

That sounds awfully negative. You're suggesting Hejda will be "cap" dumped?

Always a breath of fresh air.
Hannan was great, pre-lockout when you could clutch and grab to your hearts content. After the 'new rules' didn't allow for that, he wasn't nearly as effective as he was then.

Hannan was good for this first 2 years with the Avs but there is CLEARLY a reason why he signed a $1M contract with the Flames LATE last summer as a UFA and why he's still unsigned, looking for work at this point in this summer.

I think at this point in their careers, Hejda is much harder to play against than Hannan and it's not something that is quantifiable with a bunch of lazy-man's stats like plus/minus or silly corsi-crappy whatever. Just watching the games, you can tell. Hannan has become just an average player...he's not a great passer, he's not a great puck handler, he's not a great hitter, he's not a big d-man, he's doesn't have the best positioning...he's just average at this point.

Clearly, the rest of the league agrees with you and a whole bunch of teams are currently in a bidding war to sign this guy.

It's actually pretty clear that you haven't seen Zanon play.
