Created: Jan 8, 2005
Regina SK ---- This evening the Regina Pats Hockey Club announced that they have traded nineteen-year-old forward Dan Waschuk to the Saskatoon Blades, in exchange for nineteen-year-old goaltender Adam Ward.
In fourteen appearances with the Blades this season, Ward has a 6-4-2 record
with a 3.13 GAA and a .909 save percentage.
Waschuk, a second round WHL Bantam Draft Choice of the Pats in 2000 had
eight goals, ten assists & fifty-eight penalty minutes in fourty games this
"We felt at this time that it was necessary to add a veteran goaltender to
ease the load on David Reekie. Adam has proved to be a dependable goalie in
our league and we are excited to add him to our line-up," commented Pats GM
"Dan has had a tough year offensively and a change of scenery will be
positive for him. We thank Dan for everything he has done as a member of
our organization and we wish him all the best," added Parker.
“Dan is a big strong player that goes hard to the net. He’s strong on the puck and along the boards. This trade fills a need that both clubs had. We get depth at the forward position and the Pats get a goaltender with three years Western Hockey League experience. The Blades wish Adam all the best in Regina”, comments Blades Associate Coach Chad Mercier.
Waschuk played in 214 regular season games with the Pats and totaled 48
goals & 41 assists with 241 penalty minutes.
To make room for Adam Ward on the roster the Pats have re-assigned
goaltender Nathan Hienen to the Humboldt Broncos of the SJHL.
Both Adam Ward & Dan Waschuk are expected to be in the line-up on Saturday
night as the Pats host the Blades in a 7:00PM start at the Agridome.
The Pats now have two goaltenders, seven defencemen & fourteen forwards on
their active roster. An updated Pats roster is attached.
I like it... I was never too confident in Ward and I think Monette is an adequate backup, though I worry what will happen next year as far as goaltending. Will hopefully be catching the game on TV tomorrow night.
