Short Answer: No.

Gaglardi is a billionaire who wants to own a successful hockey team.

The numbers in this thread are ridiculous. Anything more than a Couture type deal is overpayment.

No.

And he's a center, we'd match that Pittsburgh offer sheet anyways.

Have to agree with SS in that the numbers are crazy, but no way he gets a Couture-esque contract. Still think Tavares' contract is a good comparison, and is was only signed last offseason.

There's no contract that any team can construct that Dallas won't match. Benn is the franchise player and the only way he gets snagged is if some moronic GM offers a 10+ year contract worth 100+ mil. That seems very unlikely, however.

He would get 5.5 to 6 a year for 5 to 7 years.

The numbers being offered are what you offer a franchise player. If I were going to throw franchise player money at a forward, I'd want it to be a forward who has scored 70+ points at some point in is career. Give been a short term bridge deal at lowball terms. He hasn't proven himself enough to deserve anything more.

Except, you know, that pesky issue of Benn being a better player than Couture in each of the last two seasons.

Good thing thats exactly what Benn is then.

Yeah, because I'm sure Benn is going to sign a lowball offer.

While I am a sharks fan, I don't really think it's clear cut that Benn is better. I do like them both but I'm not exactly sure I'd be able to pick one to be above the other yet.

It's more so due to their being a big difference between Tavares and Benn. I like Benn just as much as the next guy, but comparing him to Tavares is going a little too far.

Exactly. Which makes him getting a better contract insane. That's what I'm trying to say.

5 years, 5.675M per.

Dallas would match any offer, even ones over 10 million a season.

That's not really that good of a deal for Dallas. For Benn it's a steal, but for the organization it's brutal.

It doesn't have to be a 'good deal' it needs to be a fair deal.

Kopitar signed a bigger one with a smaller cap with similar stats.

Tavares is more skilled than Kopitar but those beastly sized two way top centers are worth a lot.

*edit* if I'm Benn I don't give up a single UFA year unless the Cap hit is north of $6m.

Eh, Kopitar's stats were still better than Benn's. 61, 77, 66 vs 41, 56, 63 and while two years younger.

How...? People can't honestly expect for him to sign under 4M per.

Depends on the length. If it covers some of his UFA seasons, then 6-7 AAV is very much around that value.

Heh, funny how it goes from over 5M to now under 4M. Nah, around 4-5M would probably be about right.

Since he's better than Kaner according to poll.

This kid is a keeper, his value in a $70 million dollar cap world is between 5 and 6 million to the Stars.

For some reason I think it will be something like Eriksson's contract but less term.

Benn is a good young player. He's surprised a lot of people with how he can play as a power forward at such a young age in the best league in the world. Needless to say, who knows what his next contract is going to be worth with the way players are being priced at in FA but I'm sure like some have said somewhere in the ball park of 5.5-6mil
