Giroux Arguement

Hey guys im not a frequent poster but I wanted to hear a little Dialogue on Claude Giroux I have been arguing with a guy all day and he is saying Giroux should be considered one of the best in the game. Discuss!!

Players I personally have ahead of Giroux in terms of overall Play!

CROSBY
MIKE RICHARDS
TOEWS
DATSYUK
MALKIN

This guy thinks Giroux should be in the top 3 let alone the top 5

Rant away guys!!

Giroux will have to repeat his success before he's included among the likes of Stamkos, Malkin, and Crosby.

We got Giroux? Otherwise doesn't really matter. Galchenyuk will be better than him, so thats what I care about.

He had a career year last season, he's not as proven as the others. We'll have to wait and see if he can repeat.

I'd say the following players are better than Giroux:
Evgeni Malkin
Sidney Crosby
Steven Stamkos
Henrik Sedin
Joe Thornton
Pavel Datsyuk
Ilya Kovalchuk

But I could see how your friend thinks he belongs in the top 5, it's not that far fetched and with the season he just had it's hard to argue it.

But he's definitely better than Toews and Mike Richards, these guys' offensive production is pretty overrated because of their two way game.

People said the same thing about Ryan Getzlaf after his 91 point season.

He hasn't repeated, and I doubt he ever will.

In the top 10 not in the top 5. He can reach the top 5, but won't be higher than 5 unless Toews and Crosby can't get back to what they were because of their concussions and he'll have to outplay also upcoming Tavares so for me he won't ever be a top 5 Center

Crosby
Malkin
Stamkos
Toews
H.Sedin
Thorton
Datysuk

Giroux
Tavares

are all better then Giroux right now imo

Never start an argument list missing Rocket Richard winner. Stamkos-Crosby-Malkin Then Sedins-Datsyuk, Giroux. If he backs it up then yeah he's in the BIG 3-4.

Malkin
Crosby
Stamkos
Datsyuk
Sedin

All better than Giroux, and all the same position.

Is he one of the top forwards in the league? Of course.
Is he a top 5 forward? No. Top 5 center? No.

lol at mike richards. your friend wins by default. if 40 point players are in the top 5, i guess gomez can be a top 25 player in the league.

Not that I agree with the OP, but to claim that Richards is "a 40 point player" is ridiculous. I guess Ovechkin is a 60 point player now too.

Ironic too, because you make the opposite argument in the Doan/Semin thread regarding injured players' production.

Giroux is overrated. Awesome but people are saying better than ovechkin now? Uhm. It's 1 season. There's a ton of guys who have been more consistent and elite longer, one good year doesn't change that. If he happens to do it 2 years in a row then sure, he'll be up there but it won't be official for me until he does.

I have him in the top 10. Based on how scoring has gotten recently, if Giroux posts another 93-ish point season again then I would be more than willing to put him in the top 5. I would not take him over Crosby and Malkin, but I would at least consider him against anyone else, including Stamkos.

If you want to talk about a non-hab player, take it to a non-hab board.
