we have $9.3M, not the highest, but up there ...still only a couple mil over that group, i think we'll live.

if im Gillis, having an expensive goalie split (and tops in the league at that), with perhaps a bit of discord in the room, is a far lesser evil that dumping your best trading chip for scraps.

i think at this point Gillis should just do some damage control, try to convince Luongo to co-exist with Schneider as 1A and 1B for this season, then wait and see what the market looks like at the TDL

the fish ain't bitin, and Luongo seems like the type of guy that would be willing to take the high road for one more season

Then Gillis will have to wait, he's got no leverage anyway so he is forced to continue to wait until someone blows out a knee or something.

Otherwise scraps is all he can expect right now without any leverage.

He's got a valuable asset nobody needs. Might as well wait for the need to surface.

Except the asset asked to be traded. Waiting on a team getting desperate isn't guaranteed to turn the winds around. (Nash for instance)

Even if Luongo 'asked' for a trade, there is 10 years and 47 million reasons why he'd have to show up and grin and bear it returning.

Gillis can only hope Luongo will expand his list once he realizes Toronto and Florida aren't going to fork over what Gillis is demanding.

Roberto will rather stay in Vancouver than wait for any NHL teams to be willing to give what Gillis wants.

Im under the impression that there isnt even a list yet. I think Gillis has said that hes waiting for the trade offer before he asks Luongo to waive his NTC. Its Luongo that has said he would like to go to Florida, and its Toronto media that is speculating that the leads are in the running

That's probably true right now, but I can't see that being the case medium let alone long term. He's going to want to play more and have his roll as a starter back. Splitting games with Cory in Vancouver is more appealing to him than playing in say Columbus but for how long? He's only a few months removed from a season where he had the role he feels he deserves, come the new year depending on how things unfold I could see him being more open to alternatives.

9.3 million isn't the highest? I doubt that.

Vancouver is indeed the highest. Boston and Nashville come closest with 8.5.

If Luongo can bear it out (not saying he should have to) it is definitely the best thing for Vancouver. They need demand to be higher for it to be worth it go give up even 25-30 starts of Luongo's production imo

Boston's cap hit is higher. Thomas + Rask = 8.5; I'm fairly certain they need a backup. According to capgeek their backup makes 875k.

Canucks need to trade Lou before the season starts and everybody except some Canuck fans can see this.

And canucks are not trading from a postion of strength.

They have a player on a long contract who wants out and not many teams Interested.

Lol it's not their fault Thomas screwed them over. That doesn't count

The Canucks are trading Lu; it's just a question of when.

I was talking about Gillis mistake and his mismanagement of his goalies (assets) at this time.
I love it, keep up the humor...how did gillis missmanage goalies?

Well they don't "need to" but it would be prefferable.
