Yes, because in a city the size of Toronto, everyone works 9-5 monday to friday. EDIT: To add to this, it was a BBQ planned for kids and families. I didn't see anything about a drunk-fest.

How is this unprecedented? Is Blair angling for more funding or just another dramatic soundbyte? Happens all the time in these neighbourhoods.

How is it unprecedented? Are you serious? Please name any other time that that many people have been shot in one incident in Toronto. That is what makes it unprecedented.

There were 21 people shot. Of those, two are dead and the rest injured.

A late night BBQ with free booze with that crowd in that neighbourhood...no thanks. The only reassuring thing is that I know to stay the hell away from there.

Ummm...right. That was kinda my point. The shooting started just before 11 p.m. on a Monday night. Most people working a 9-5 are either in or getting ready for bed by then. These people were still outside, partying, drinking and dragging their kids around.

More excellent decision-making. Drive 2 hours for free booze.

Horrible and shocking display of violence.

Who the hell has a block party on a Monday night?

People line up for hours in the cold just to save a few bucks on electronics. So it's not a surprise that some people would drive that far for free booze.

What difference does the day it happened make? If it happened on a Saturday, is it any less tragic?

Im not trying to start an argument, but it's summer. People tend to use all the sunshine they can muster in Canada.

I lived one street south of there (Ling Rd) and used to walk by there often enough, I guess I'm not terribly surprised it happened there, but at the same time I never felt scared to go out at any time of the day/night. Down the road there's a big house, with a big field and horses.....and also a great place to get veal parmesan, and calzones.

Because responsible adults who positively contribute to society don't organize big piss-ups on Monday evenings. End of story. We tuck our kids in and have a glass of wine (or two)...

Doesn't make any difference to the severity of the acts of violence, but it does say something about the social responsibilities of a community of adults who have a hard liquor block party on a work day that stretches on into a work night.

These gun wielding thugs act so tough, but in reality, they are nothing but snivelling cowards who are afraid of their own shadows. It takes a true wimp to open fire in an area filled with innocent children. Gutless. Just gutless.

I agree, but it sounded like a it supposed to start at 2 and end at 9. Face-painting and other kid activities don't exactly make it sound like it was a college-like kegger. Obviously we don't know all the details but we can't hang parents out to dry just because it happened to fall on a Monday while kids weren't in school. I work most weekends and monday and tuesday are my usual off-days. I attend quite a few functions during the traditional "work week" in summer with my wife and kid.

Having said that, I live in a small town on Manitoulin Island so I realize it's not the same thing.

The state of your imployment has little to do with your decision making, in a case like this.

Was waiting on the story to develop further and whether it was 100 victims or none, the fact that anyone thinks it's okay to pull out a guy and fire bullets is absolutely disgusting. Those kind of people should rot in jail and they don't deserve the treatment that our $60+ thousand dollar tax dollars per inmate pays for.

My condolences to the victims and their families. Heard there was an infant injured in the mad rush that ensued when the bullets started flying...seriously, what is wrong with humanity?

Edit: So I read the official report on CP24 and what I initially heard was of the 21 injured, some of them were injured due to the chaos of everyone trying to get out. So 21 is the number of people who were physically shot...one girl suffered 4 gunshot wounds. I can't explain with words how insanely angry this incident makes me. I hope they're caught and suffer dearly for their crimes and I don't mean a life sentence, I mean some other thugs in jail beating them senseless.

very sad,

but let's not act like this event makes Toronto as a major city, as dangerous as other ones, especially in the US.
