I was actually expecting them to let Abdelkader walk.
Really? They were never gonna let him walk. He's our 4th line center. He will rise from the ashes and you shall rue the day y'all dismissed the All American Gator!
If he gets a dollar over what Dwight King just got....
I love how people want a more physical bottom 6, then get angry when we re-sign the most physical player we have.
Gator is fake tough.
The guy is only good at getting his face pounded and doesn't make it harder for opposing teams to play against the wings. He is sooooo mediocre and unnecessary.

I'm curious as to why you guys are so down on Abdelkader?
Do you just feel he has no offensive upside?
thanks.
I like the guy on this team, but some people might think he is redundant, with Miller, Eaves and the rest of our bottom 6 forwards. He's a 30 point scorer, is our most physical player and can fill in on the second line when needed. He does take some stupid penalties from time to time, but he's only played 2 full years, so he's still getting used to the NHL, I suspect we'll see his biggest year this year, playing with Helm and Tootoo (Grind Line 2.0).

So you don't want a more physical bottom 6...you want a bottom 6 who fight. They aren't necessarily the same thing.
Abby led the forwards in hits by a wide margin (over 50) and was in the top 50 in the league for hits by a forward.

He does take some dumb penalties but he draws a lot more than he takes.
Yes, we want a more physical bottom six, But we also want more than an Ahl banger with no hockey sense, Who loses his man routinely, Hurts us with taking bad penalties at the worst possible time, And he looks like a jack ass mouth breather! Please include him in any upgrade trade!

30 point scorer?
He set career highs last season with 22 points and 8 goals.

Hit stats are probably the most misleading stat in the league along with +/-. They're very inaccurate too. The guy finishes checks, I don't consider that "hitting." He takes dumb penalties, and also has little offensive upside.
Been saying this a while now - I like Abby as a winger. If we went Dats, Z, Filp, Helm down the middle Gator could play 4th line Wing opposite Tootoo and absolutley run amok every shift.
Never been a big fan of Quincey but if he can return to 30-40pt range and play reasonably sound defensivley he could be a pleasant suprise.
