Modano intrigued by thoughts of comeback

http://www.nhl.com/ice/news.htm?id=638073

Could Mike Modano be thinking about an NHL comeback?

The 42-year-old center, who retired following the 2010-11 season, didn't completely dismiss the notion when playing again was brought up during a press conference Monday to announce his induction this past week into the U.S. Hockey Hall of Fame.

Modano said he had started working out Monday not with a comeback in mind, but with the thought of "what the heck."

"I don't know," he said. "You look at things and you wonder, 'What's the worst thing that could happen?' I mean, I get in better shape. I don't know what's going to happen with the CBA and everything, but I mean, one more year? That kind of intrigues me."

After 20 years with the North Stars/Stars franchise, Modano played one season with the Detroit Red Wings in 2010-11, but was limited to just 40 games due to a wrist tendon severed by a skate blade. He had 10 points in 20 games prior to the injury, but after missing three months, he never found a groove again.

"I've never really been able to fully close the door on that deal," he said. "I think my last year in Detroit was a lot of fun, and I wish it would have ended differently, with the injury and everything. I wish it would have ended better, and there's a taste in your mouth about leaving the way it was it still haunts me."

Just because his career didn't end the way he wanted, however, doesn't mean he has enough left to come back for one more season. He said he hasn't spoken to any team about a comeback and believes it would take him several months of full workouts to get himself into playing shape. And even if all that happens, he's still not sure he can play at the NHL level again.

"I think I'm in La La Land or Dreamland just thinking about it," he said. "You never know how that would work out, but I can't really see it happening. I think in the back of my mind, I would love to see something work out where I could go back for a year, but I don't know … I don't see it."

PICK HIM UP KENNY LMAO

Ken Holland's top six forward for Datsyuk has finally been found.

He fits perfectly.

If he wants to play somewhere, and someone wants to sign him, then good luck. I may not want him back in Detroit, but the injury was an ugly way to spend most of his last season.

so it's either modano or draper.

Could someone put whatevers in Hasek and Modanos cool-aid in Lidstroms?

Wouldn't it be great if Lids got "the itch". A few months into the year, trained in private, then signed on the day of the Winter Classic? Lol, dare to dream

He had 10 points in 20 games, until the injury. He is right handed. He is over 40. He has played here before.

I'm hoping Sammy has scratched that itch for KH lol.

I'd be interested in bringing Modano back. He's a vet with leadership who knows the system. He plays center..... ah, not even I can pull off this gag.

Hmmm, this news comes around the same time Dallas finds out Roy won't be healthy to start the season...

That leaves their top 2 centers as Benn (not a natural center) and Eakin (with a whole 30 games of NHL experience).

So it's Stars fans that need to be worried

For our sake, I'm hoping that he's only considering the Stars or the Wild- I think it would be cool for him to finish his career in Minnesota. Don't want him back in a Wings uni though, not that we're overly stocked down the middle (hate the Abby/Emmerton situation on the 4th line).

Don't eat breakfast so it doesn't really bother me.

It's not my fault that Holland has turned into a bad joke. The guy just loves to sign up old and washed up players. He is currently waiting out a 35 year old winger over Alexander Semin.

He can have all the intrigue he wants, so long as he doesn't commit to it.

Sorry for bumping this thread because I think the notion of him returning is silly, but I think he just wants in on the hype in Minnesota right now. He's wants in on that Team USA **********.

I'd love to know your source on what's happening with Semin. So far Holland has only said that they hadn't spoken.

He'd fit well on a line with Jagr and Whitney... the 42 and Fabulous line
