Which leads me to believe that Brodin is starting in Houston or Yeo doesn't want him, yet. If he plays up here he is going to get top 4 minutes and hopefully PP2 time.

If Brodin outplays all of Falk, Stoner and Prosser at training camp I wouldn't be surprised to see him start the season with the Wild in the third pairing.

I think its a given he'll outplay those three. I suppose he'd still get 15+ minutes, hopefully.

It's probably unlikely to happen, but I don't think it's too farfetched an idea that Brodin could outplay Scandella and take his place in the top 4. I either want him in the top 4, or in Houston.

Of course, Parise turned down the opportunity to play with the two best hockey players in the world in order to save mommy some airfare, leaving Pittsburgh with about $14 million in cap space and not a free agent worth spending it all on.

....

Still, who would have thought Zach Parise would help decide the 2013 Atlantic Division title by heading to a seemingly irrelevant Northwest Division squad?

That's what he's looking at right now, but if Brodin shows up in camp and outplays Spurgeon, I wouldn't be too surprised to see Suter-Brodin with Spurgeon knocked down to the third pairing with Stoner.

Better to be hated than ignored, fellas (and lady). Pittsburgh was so bad for so many years that they were very close to relocating. Stones, glass houses, etc.

I thank Zach's parents for Zach being a Minnesota native, Suter's wife being a Bloomington native, and Suter, himself, having a very close Minnesota accent being from Madison as to why we got both. lol

This is why I am astounded over these stupid media members or fans all complaining about Parise and Suter going to a franchise that doesn't have a winning tradition or a Broadway in Manhattan close by for excitement. How about family and a state called "The State of Hockey" let alone great future prospects? Is that not good enough reasoning? Stupid.

I don't get why everyone loves spurg so much..It freaks me out everytime he is on the ice. He could be the smallest hockey player in the league being 5'9 and in my opinion you want your defenceman alittle bigger. Any time there is a battle in front of the net Spurg will lose..there's no way he can move anyone from screening our goalie. Sure he can move the puck well, but every time the puck is in our zone I don't see him doing much of anything..

5'9'' is only 1'' shorter than guys like Brian Rafalski and John-Michael Liles (at least their listed heights). Is it ideal? No, but I don't think it's too much of an issue. As long as he plays smart and moves the puck well, there will be a place for him on the roster.

I don't get why everyone gets so fixated on size....Not every blueliner needs to be over 6' 210 lbs to be effective...and not every blueliner needs to be physical and the type to clear out the front of the net. A succesful team has a mix of players that do both to use in different game situations. Spurgeon is an offensive-defenseman, his job is to move the puck up the ice and help create offensively.

One thing I do like about Spurg is his ability to not only move the puck around on the PP but he has the speed and agility to be a good 2way dman on the ice

What I don't like about him is how easily he is muscled off the puck, and his ineptitude at keeping the puck in at the point.

He does think and see the game very well though.

Spurgeon hasn't even hit the prime years for a defenseman yet....I'm really looking forward to see if he can pick it up a notch this season.
