How about the isles keep Neilsen, scoring 45 pts at $2.75m,while the Oilers keep Gagner, scoring 45 pts at $3.5m-$4m(which is what I expect he will be signing for).

Nope.
The Canucks would need a 2nd line center in return (in a package for Kesler), and looking at the thread title the Islanders don't have one.

I'm too lazy to look it up,but I believe Pleks and Golmez will each be making $5m per.

Isles can't afford to pay Plekanec $5m and Gomez isn't worth that salary.

Gomez makes 5.5 this year, and 4.5 the next, but still has a cap hit of 7+M

This is SCREAMS Snow and Wang type contract, lol.

Honestly, I actually think he would be a good fit for a young Islanders team, we all know Gomez sucks, but a lot of the young guys on the Habs have credited him for helping deal with NHL live, Eller, Desharnais, Pacioretty, etc.

I guess it make sense when you look at who was in the Devils locker-room when Gomez first came up, Niedermayer, Stevens, Nieuwendyk,Mckay etc.

Please stop.Seriously.

The isles are one of 17 teams currently below the cap floor.According to Newsday, they expect the cap floor to drop.Isles are at $47.7m with Martin to be re-signed and 2-3 open roster spots for kids.

Isles are not making a cap floor deal because they don't think they will need to.

22 yr old Bailey, due to make $1m, is solid defensively and a good pk player. His offense has not been where the team wants it,but they look like they will be switching him permanently to lw,where he's looked better.

Gagner's raise will likely see him earning somewhere between $3.5m-$4m.He and Neilsen will score a similar amount, but Frans will do so while making $2.75m.

Is Gagner worth $3.5m-$4m?Oilers may think so.I doubt Snow would.

Filppula + 2nd for Streit + 3rd
Or filppula + quincey + 1st for Bailey + Streit + 2nd

Its all gonna depend on how 'ready' Cizikas is.

I think Snow will start the season with JT, Nielsen, Cizikas, Reasoner down the middle.

If Cizikas struggles, Snow might pull the trigger and bring in a Connolly or Lombardi to take over on that 3rd line for a year.

Then again, I don't think we've seen the last of Josh Bailey at centre either....so he may be another option.

No interest in moving Streit for either filppula(ufa in 2013) + quincey (due a raise on his$3m salary).

I can't see Snow going anywhere near Connolly's $4.5m contract. He was outscored by Frans Nielsen by a dozen pts this season.Connolly made $4.75m to Frans $550,000.

Thats not a big cap hit/low actual salary. That's $4.75m for 35 or so pts.

Staal-Staal both play on the 1st line and the supposed "2nd line center" is actually a winger, I guess that leaves you guys with Jeremy Welsh . Since he isn't technically on the trading block, however, it would take nothing less than a vast overpayment to pry him from JR.

Heheheh keep dreaming, a trade for a 2nd line C is not gonna happen. It'll be Tavares/Nielsen/Cizikas/Ullstrom or maybe Bailey plays 3rd line C if they haven't learned their lesson yet.

I bet the NYI wish they could get Malkin, but realistically Snow will not over pay for a player nor trade away prospects.

Strome will be the 2C and may need 1 or 2 years to develop so role so the team only needs a "stop gap" solution which given that means a player that is an expiring UFA and to get that player cheap means they are another teams problem. Handzuz fits that and so does Connolly.

Plus the way Snow thinks this through, if Handzuz rebounds he can trade him for a pick at the deadline if the NYI are not in the playoff race.

i believe it will remain the habs' punishment to keep their 2 goal wonder for doing the rangers that tremendous favour.

I haven't heard Stastny mentioned in this thread. What would you give up for Stats? Since he would be able to slot in as a 2C.

OP asked for a 2nd line C in hopes for a playoff push though. Consider it a rental, still worth it as it makes the team better this year.

And Islanders don't have to worry about anybodys cap hit atm.

EDIT: Oh, and Streit is also UFA next year.

Any interest in something around Tyler Bozak for Anders Lee? With the addition of McClement at 3 and having Grabovski locked up already in the 2 slot, his future in Toronto seems uncertain. He has one more year at $1.5 Mil before he's a UFA. He's a pretty good player if you don't need to rely on him at the 1 slot.

that's a tricky question given that stastny would only play for two years in an isles uniform. everyone also has to be aware that his production has dipped in his last two campaigns where he has posted 57 and 53 points. that being said, i think highly enough of his talent to believe that he could help the islanders into the playoffs.

Horrible.
It's much worse for the Sharks, imo.

Seeing no Niederreiter in your lineup makes me want to ask what's going on with him? I see one goal all of last year, so will he be playing in the AHL all next year? Have a lot of fans giving up on him yet?
