Hoping he has a good camp and locks down the 4th line C role. Mitchell was valuable last year due to his versatility, so I have no problem with him as a 3rd line L or R winger, or as the 13th forward.

I like him. Let's ship out MItchell and hopefully Malone can take that 4th line spot.

I'd like to see Malone beat out Olver for the 13th forward spot, and then Olver put on waivers. Some team will pick him up, but if not he can help Lake Erie. If Malone can steal Mitchell's spot, then Mitchell can be traded at the deadline to a team looking for some bottom 6 scoring.

Mitchell is great in the bottom-6. We all loved him at the beginning of the season, and then when Sacco started to play him on the top lines like the scrub of a coach he is, so we all turned on him.

I'm sure he will be used to his proper abilities with Roy and we'll be glad to have him in the bottom-6.

This is the last year of waiver exemption for him, so I guess it makes sense with a one year contract.

I think Olver would clear waivers pretty easily.

Fire John Mitchell into space and here's our 4th line center to start the season.

Always liked Malone. Smart player.

At least we won't be worried about not having enough players.

Good 4th line guy.

I think Mitchell can be moved before the season starts to teams looking for 3rd line guys. (Edmonton and Vancouver, I'm looking at you!)

Olver, Malone, McLeod, and Bords are a great combo for making the "pest/energy/smash" line

Mark Olver is bad at playing hockey, though.

I really hope we keep Olver. I like him a lot and him and Bordy trolling around is just too good.

He's okay, but okay really is only good enough to eat nachos in this league.

He's been fine for a 4th liner. He is an irritant that can get opponents off their game (Hinote, Galli, Ville, etc) without taking bad penalties to do it.

Considering as it looks now, our 4th line will struggle to see 10 minutes of ice time, having a player like Olver wont hurt us (and he's cheap).

That's not the way to build a winning hockey club, you need players that'll help you win, not ones that won't hurt you.

It is precisely this reason why I don't want Olver on that 4th line. The 4th line should be guys who will be used in penalty-killing scenarios, and Olver just runs around the defensive zone looking for the hit. Not a smart hockey player. Bordeleau is already one guy on the 4th line who will never PK. Cody will be doing it whether we like it or not. That center has to be PK quality. Mitchell's not. Olver's not.

Malone might be better on the PK, but he hasn't been so good on faceoffs, has he? Kinda need a good faceoff guy on the PK...

I agree, he's not that great on faceoffs, but his defensive ability makes him quite useful. Considering all three of Duchene/Stastny/O'Reilly operate at a 50+% clip (don't know MacK's FO ability and not ignoring O'Ry at C yet), we can sacrifice some faceoff ability there.

Either way, we don't have an ideal 4th line center in the system. At least not yet.

He's is surely not a lynch pin in the Avs winning or losing this season. He is versatile positionally, plays hard, and doesn't complain about playing/nacho time.

He's served his time bouncing up and down from LE, and IMO done adequately in any role he's been asked and earned his chance to stay up this year. Rather play him out this season than sign a FA for a pricier/longer deal since neither player will likely impact the outcome of the Avs season.

I also think it is good for the Avs as an organization to reward those tweener guys who have bounced back and forth from LEM by giving them those chances especially at the end of their contract.

If he is awful to start the year, then I don't care if the Avs waive him, but he's playing for a new contract and likely will do everything extra he can to stay up this year.

Malone isn't great on faceoffs... which is disappointing as that was a strength of his in college.
